Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1085456 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Traditional. Score and parts. 23 pages. Derek Hasted #689606. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1085456). PORTSMOUTH - 4 GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Although this piece was made famous by Mike Oldfield, it first appeared in John Playford’s “The Dancing Master†in 1701, and also found fame in the hands of Ralph Vaughan Williams. My arrangement starts with a slow, teasing, introduction, and introduces the famous melody very slowly and gently. “What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor†also makes a few appearances before we let the brakes off and burst into the tune that many people know. The music isn’t hard to play, and each line has some music interest, though only Guitar 1 has to venture up the neck. It’s ideal for a mixed ability ensemble, and runs at nearly five minutes, to make a substantial concert item that builds up and up. This arrangement was a firm favourite with the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra (HAGO) and their audiences. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as HAGO did!

Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797756 Composed by Bernard de la Monnoye. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Baroque,Christmas. Score and parts. 17 pages. Derek Hasted #4836609. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797756). PATAPAN - traditional carol - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar. There are TWO ARRANGEMENTS in this one edition.Derek Hasted writes This Burgundian Carol, first published in 1720, usually has four verses in the French version and three in the English. This arrangement has three verses, all in slightly different styles. The melody and the onomatopoeia in the lyrics are together meant to symbolise the fife (“Ture-lure-luâ€) and the drum (“Pata-pata-panâ€).In both arrangements Guitar One has melody, and it fits nicely in a mix of IV and V position. There is no fingering, because your ensemble might want to choose between two different approaches...A less experienced ensemble might prefer to venture up the neck just to reach for the A and B notes, and return to the first position as soon as possible...A more experienced group might want to stay up the neck to get a more rounded tone throughout. Depending on your choice of fingering, slurs might be possible to improve the flow. There are two versions of the lower parts. In the first arrangement, in “SATB†style, Guitar 4 plays the bass; Guitar 3 provides, in the three verses, percussion, a choral countermelody, and finally a Hurdy-Gurdy style drone; Guitar provides a countermelody. In the second arrangement, the roles rotate at the end of each verse, so that all the accompanying players have three very different verses to play. Guitar 1 stays with the tune, because in a mixed ability ensemble, moving the tune about tends to highlight any weaknesses. This arrangement highlights the strengths!Percussion (the X-headed notes) works well if you tap the guitar near the bridge to get a deep bass drum.At the end, the brave amongst you can shout “Patapan†to bring the piece to a surprise conclusion...I hope you enjoy this piece!

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1395754 Composed by Derek Hasted. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Baroque,Children,Comedy,Renaissance. 18 pages. Derek Hasted #979126. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1395754). FANTASIA UPON A CABBAGE - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensembleFor Classical or Acoustic GuitarPerfect for School Music Teachers and for adults with a sense of the ridiculous...Derek Hasted writes This really does need a bit of explanation. Well, more than a bit...As a Guitar Teacher I often have to teach beginners how to read music, and of course the seven names of the musical notes can be made to spell words. Like CABBAGE.This, then, is a little piece of kitchen-based nonsense, cooking up a rather unappetising dish comprising cabbage, egg, beef and a lot, lot more cabbage. Iâ??ve arranged it (if that is the word) to include nods to the renaissance and baroque periods. The scores contain mark-ups to show where a particular player has an item of food in their motif. As well as EGG, youâ??ll find some GEG (thatâ??s scrambled egg) and a BAD EGG (and some sad music). Youâ??ll also find that the recipe includes a helping or two of BEEF.Bach comes in for a special mention, as thereâ??s a fugue-like section where the subject comes in a fifth away from the starting key (which Iâ??ve loosely interpreted as being a recipe in a foreign language) and thereâ??s some stretti (well, just about) at the end, when the fugue subjects overlap a tiny, tiny amount. And we also pay homage to the pedal section of an organ, where the CABBAGE subject comes in down low at half the speed of the original. The final, jazzy, chord at the end contains seven notes that collectively spell CABBAGE.Guitar 4 is supplied in treble and bass clefs - either or both will work in a large ensemble. So there are lots of teaching points, lots of things to ask the audience to listen out for, and a lot of mischief in a compact piece. The musical refrain CABBAGE is not the greatest motif to work with, but on reflection, when you have this much cabbage, itâ??s much better to listen to it than have to eat it...I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797754 Composed by Traditional German. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Christmas,Folk. 14 pages. Derek Hasted #4796597. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797754). SUSSER DIE GLOCKEN NIE KLINGEN (Sweeter the bells never sound) - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This delightful tune is a traditional Thuringian Folk Melody, and has become a well-loved German Carol with the English translation Sweeter the bells never sound than at Christmas time. This piece of music is ideal for a novice mixed-ability guitar ensemble - it would be an ideal instrumental for a School Christmas concert, but is also in a good key for accompanying singers. Two Guitar 1 parts are provided - you can use either or both, depending on the skill of the players in your ensemble. Guitar 1b is all first (or second) position, whereas Guitar 1a is all in VII position - the part score is thoroughly fingered. The other parts are all straightforward. But as well as being a fantastic piece for a school concert, it is also great in an adult concert, since it has immediate audience appeal and needs minimal preparation in experienced hands.I hope you enjoy performing this!

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1322118 By Cyndi Lauper. By Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Pop. 21 pages. Derek Hasted #910475. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1322118). TRUE COLORS (Cyndi Lauper) - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensemblePrimarily for Classical or Acoustic GuitarDerek Hasted writes This charming and uplifting piece makes a wonderful concert item for all abilities of Guitar players from Early Intermediate upwards. My quartet has parts that increase slightly in complexity from bass to tune, so thereâ??s something for everyone here. The bass line is supplied in both treble and bass clefs, and the two parts are identical, so for a large ensemble, you can have one or the other or both in your performance.Everything is comfortable to play, and my transcription is based on the gentle simplicity found in Cyndi Lauperâ??s official video, and placed in a key that suits the wide range of pitch in this piece. The music rises and falls as the song progresses, making the dynamics happen almost automatically. But there are plenty of opportunities in the phrasing to make this piece absolutely magical.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1373435 By Peter Cetera. By David Babyface Foster, Diane Nini, and Peter Cetera. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Film/TV,Pop,Rock. 24 pages. Derek Hasted #957801. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1373435). THE GLORY OF LOVE (Peter Cetera) - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensembleFor Classical or Acoustic GuitarDerek Hasted writes This power ballad makes a wonderful concert item for a Guitar Quartet or large ensemble - it has an impressively big sound. All the verses, choruses and breaks are present except the fade out, which is replaced by a defined end to the piece (so the audience knows when to applaud!)This arrangement sits somewhere between intermediate and advanced intermediate, with each of the parts having music in more than one voice from time to time to make a fuller sound.Everything is comfortable to play, and my transcription is based closely on the official video from Peter Cetera. I've changed the key slightly so the music fits the guitar neck better and the modulation in the reprise is in a familiar key for the players. The music rises and falls as the song progresses, making the dynamics happen almost automatically. But there are plenty of opportunities in the phrasing to make this ballad absolutely magical. This piece featured in the film Karate Kid II, so you can get your chops in, either on the guitar or in a Karate competition...I hope you enjoy playing this piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.
