GOD ONLY KNOWS (Beach Boys) - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensemble

For Classical or Acoustic Guitar

Derek Hasted writes This is a lovely piece that will appeal to audiences of all ages - theyâ??ll be humming it on the way home!

I've arranged this to suit as many guitar ensembles as possible - I've changed the key a little to make the shapes in this piece familiar ones and to make best use of the neck. My arrangement will suit a mixed ability ensemble from early intermediate to intermediate.

Guitar 4 has the bottom string tuned down to D.

I've arranged this in compound time instead of swing rhythm, and I've included triplet dotted crotchets (¼ notes) instead of three plain crotchets, so that the rhythm is easy to read.
The piece finishes with a final chord instead of a fade to nothing, as it usually works better in concert. But if you have a conductor who can help with the fade, you could carry on playing the repeating section at the end until the sound has vanished.

I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at

SKU: A0.1486342

Composed by Landini. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Early Music,Historic,Medieval,Renaissance. Score and Parts. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #1063404. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1486342).

Francesco Landini's Ecco la Primavera is a significant work from the early Renaissance that exemplifies several essential aspects of 14th-century Italian music. The piece is a ballata, a popular form of Italian secular music during the Trecento period (14th century), also known as the Italian Ars Nova. This era marked the beginning of a new musical epoch. Ecco la Primavera is composed as an isorhythmic duet. Isorhythm was a crucial compositional technique in medieval and early Renaissance music, demonstrating Landini's mastery of complex musical structures. The work celebrates spring and love, reflecting the humanist ideals emerging during the early Renaissance. This focus on secular themes and natural beauty was a departure from the predominantly religious music of the medieval period. The piece provides insight into the cultural and social life of 14th-century Florence. It was likely performed at gatherings of intellectuals and artists, such as the one described at Villa del Paradiso near Florence in 1389. As the foremost composer of the Trecento period, Landini's works, including Ecco la Primavera, are crucial for understanding the musical developments of this era. The composition features flowing melodies that were characteristic of early Renaissance Italian music. This melodic style would influence the development of Renaissance music more broadly. The work has endured over centuries and continues to be performed and appreciated today, as evidenced by its inclusion in contemporary classical music rankings. Ecco la Primavera thus serves as an important example of the musical, cultural, and intellectual shifts occurring in Italy during the transition from the medieval period to the Renaissance.

SKU: A0.850660

Composed by A.G. Villoldo, Francia Luban (Spanish), and Marjorie Harper (English). Arranged by Derek Hasted. 20th Century. Score and parts. 14 pages. Derek Hasted #457332. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.850660).

El CHOCLO - GUITAR TRIO/LARGE ENSEMBLE
For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.

Derek Hasted writes Said by some to be the definitive Tango, this piece has been recorded by musicians the world over and it positively exudes energy.

This arrangement, for 3 guitars or large ensemble, will suit a mixed-ability ensemble - the three lines are of different standards. Skilled players will find that good articulation can really make the piece come alive. So there really is something for everyone.

(Please note that I have also produced a separate duet arrangement which suits two equally matched players)

The arrangement has the repeated sections written out in full to remove the possibility of a mistake in performance, and the entire piece can be played twice through if desired.

There are plenty of opportunities for volume changes and tone changes, and I hope youâ??ll experiment and find something for your ensemble that makes the performance â??yoursâ?. Indeed, across the performances on YouTube there are different rhythms at certain points in the tune - notes that are articulated aggressively in one version might be teased longer in another - the choices are yours to make - the soundclip on the SMP website shows you what I mean by a tight articulation compared to the score.

I hope you enjoy playing this piece!
