The TASKMASTER THEME - 3 GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLE

For Classical Guitar primarily - also suits Acoustic Guitar or Electric Guitar

Derek Hasted writes Alex Horne and The Horne Section is an ensemble thatâ??s particularly hard to describe - consummate musicians and wicked comedy. So far they havenâ??t quite achieved the fame that their talent, skill and originality deserve.

Alex Horne is also known as the creator of â??Taskmasterâ?, a TV program that laughs at comedians, rather than with them, as they tackle tasks that require lateral thinking and a razor sharp mind.

The Taskmaster Theme is tricky only because of its speed. Itâ??s also annoyingly short, but for UK audiences, at least, itâ??s an instant crowd-pleaser. Then again, taken a little more slowly it's accessible to intermediate players and lasts a little longer too! The tone of the guitar is actually, well-suited to a more modest speed.

I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

SKU: A0.1084247

Composed by Turlough O'carolan. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Celtic,Irish. Score and parts. 23 pages. Derek Hasted #688426. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1084247).

PLANXTY THREE - 3 Celtic pieces for THREE GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLE

Derek Hasted writes Turlough Oâ??Carolan, the blind Irish Harpist, wrote some of the most gorgeous Celtic melodies - pieces that still delight today.

Here are three contrasting pieces, each beginning with the word â??Planxtyâ? - the meaning of which is still the subject of some debate, but thereâ??s evidence to suggest that the Publishers added the title when they were unsure of the full name of the person to whom the piece was dedicated.

Planxty Irwin is a sedate piece with simple but rich harmonies
Planxty George Brabazon is much more stirring - almost march-like in its pace
Planxty Sir Festus Burke is a masterpiece of busyness - a real crowd-pleaser

Together they make a wonderful suite for a concert, gradually lifting the mood and pace from piece to piece.

In each piece, the 3 guitar parts range in complexity from early intermediate to intermediate, so thereâ??s something for everyone.

I hope you enjoy these pieces!

SKU: A0.1486342

Composed by Landini. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Early Music,Historic,Medieval,Renaissance. Score and Parts. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #1063404. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1486342).

Francesco Landini's Ecco la Primavera is a significant work from the early Renaissance that exemplifies several essential aspects of 14th-century Italian music. The piece is a ballata, a popular form of Italian secular music during the Trecento period (14th century), also known as the Italian Ars Nova. This era marked the beginning of a new musical epoch. Ecco la Primavera is composed as an isorhythmic duet. Isorhythm was a crucial compositional technique in medieval and early Renaissance music, demonstrating Landini's mastery of complex musical structures. The work celebrates spring and love, reflecting the humanist ideals emerging during the early Renaissance. This focus on secular themes and natural beauty was a departure from the predominantly religious music of the medieval period. The piece provides insight into the cultural and social life of 14th-century Florence. It was likely performed at gatherings of intellectuals and artists, such as the one described at Villa del Paradiso near Florence in 1389. As the foremost composer of the Trecento period, Landini's works, including Ecco la Primavera, are crucial for understanding the musical developments of this era. The composition features flowing melodies that were characteristic of early Renaissance Italian music. This melodic style would influence the development of Renaissance music more broadly. The work has endured over centuries and continues to be performed and appreciated today, as evidenced by its inclusion in contemporary classical music rankings. Ecco la Primavera thus serves as an important example of the musical, cultural, and intellectual shifts occurring in Italy during the transition from the medieval period to the Renaissance.
