Opus 1, No. 2 in D major, Opus 1, No. 3 in G major, Opus 4, No. 1 in C major. Each trio of about 8 minutes in length is in a 4 movement structure of Slow- Fast-Slow-Fast. There are many great pure chorale harmonies, plus each 2nd movement has a contrapuntal style to it, which is great for building up keen ears and ensemble sense. These sonatas are of moderately advanced difficulty, in tenor and bass clefs. Endurance is not a problem because of the masterly editing of Mr. Sauer, who is legendary for his transcription skills. These trios can be performed by most College/University students and some keen high schoolers. Range goes from a pedal A for Bass Trombone to one high D for the 1st part, but most of the tessitura is in a normal range.

Rock-a-my-Soul is a Traditional song that is equal parts folk, gospel, spiritual, and camp song.  Therefore, it is great for school, church, lessons, or with friends in a room.This easy, lively arrangement is divided into five 8-bar sections: Intro, Verse 1 with accented rhythms, Chorus with a jazzy walking bass line, Verse 2 with fuller harmonies, (all sections repeated) then Coda.The Melody goes back and forth between Parts I and II and stays within the range of 1 octave.  Part III is super easy and just gently rocks back and forth on 4 repeated half notes (minims) to help anchor the beat and maintain harmony and key while the other parts move around and syncopate.This song teaches light syncopation with a tie into Beat 3.  Great harmonies are created when all 3 parts are together.  But you won't think about that because this version is so much fun to play!

One of that set was called Roadside Inn, which I have arranged for Instrumental Trio. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. There are interpretive marks in every measure as each part independently adds to the stunning polyphonic weaving. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. A great piece to show your musicianship as a group.
