EPISODES are mostly sad love-songs: A. Чом ти не прийшов: a girl sings Why did you not come and meet me in the moonlight? Wouldn't your mother let you? Dorian mode. B. Slow Waltz: I have seen this with G major accompaniment, but I have used G mixolydian: a popular mode in Ukraine.The bass has the melody. C. O, in the cherry orchard Ой, у Вишневому Саду. A girl (Clarinet) sings that she begged her boyfriend to take her home from the orchard, as it was late, but he took a different girl. Mother knows what has been going on, but is sympathetic. The music is entirely derived from the opening motif, which occurred to me on the date of my civil partnership anniversary (11 years).It's a simple ditty, but I wanted to try to test the strengths of the players. The parts all cover a wide range, and the players need to be able to sustain the rhythmic pulse in 6/8. Although the tempo is marked <dotted q>=110, it can be played up to 10 BPM faster or slower, depending on the skill of the ensemble.This would make a great addition to a recital programme or a spring or summer concert.
