I have seen and heard this sung cheerfully and very fast, but its lyrics are really sad. A young man complains that his girlfriend never turns up for their dates. Players will choose a tempo. Capriccio           This lively capriccio features a bouncy melody that is imitated in canon through the other two clarinets. Then the descending fourth motive introduced early is developed in a series of succinct statements. The movement ends with a three part canon with each clarinet racing against the others.  II. Elegy*          After someone leaves our lives there are lingering reminders of the pain of their absence combined with the sweetness of the happiest memories. The middle section represents a flashback to happier times yet the sustained notes hint that something is not quite right. In the end the melody is unable to resolve as it should yet those around it continue on their way.          *Please note that the bass clarinet player should play soprano clarinet for this movement only.  III. Frenetic           This piece would not have been written were it not for the prodding of my friend and fellow composer Felix Rivera. I would joke with him that he may never write a piece not based on tritones and he quipped back that I may never write a piece for clarinets. I decided it was time to fix not having a clarinet selection in my repertoire and this work is the result. I have used 20th century harmonies, alternating Time Signatures of 4/4 and 6/4, and many, many markings which require interpretation and musicianship. I was specially requested to write these arrangements by a clarinet teacher in Italy. The range does not go above the soprano top C (2 ledger lines above the treble clef) and the settings avoid the difficult transition a to b between the chalumeau and clarino ranges. The key signatures (as written) range from two flats to three sharps. The entire collection is available here as a set for $22.00 (15 easy clarinet trios) or, if preferred, the individual pieces are also available separately (at $2.50 each). As each piece comprises only one or two pages the players will be able to read directly from the scores, without the need for separate parts (which also gives the advantage of being able to see what the others are playing.
