Clarinet Trio,Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1211277 Composed by Marin Marais. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Baroque,Christmas. 6 pages. RayThompsonMusic #808919. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1211277). Arranged clarinet trio 2 Bb and one bassThe French composer Marin Marais composed the tune as a dance for his opera Alcyone of 1706, with the title Marche pour les Matelots. The tune was subsequently included in Raoul Auger Feuillet's 1706 Recueil de contredanse along with a longways proper dance, La Matelotte, which Feuillet had himself written to go with the tune.In 1710 John Essex (d. 1744) published an English translation of Feuillet's work called, For the Further Improvement of Dancing, in which the dance is given as The Female Saylor. The words were written around 1860 while William Morris, then 26, was working as an apprentice in the office of the architect, Edmund Street, presumably under the persuasion of his fellow students who at that time had a taste for part-song. It became known as the Christmas Carol Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear) Gustav Holst incorporated the carol into his work Three Carols (1916–17) along with Christmas Song: On this Day and I Saw Three Ships. Holst wrote the Three Carols for amateurs singing in his Thaxted festivals.I have arranged the March and 3 of the Sailor's Airs from the opera for clarinet trio, The march is then reprised to complete the arrangement.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bass Clarinet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270954 Composed by Solage. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 10 pages. Jmsgu3 #863338. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1270954). Sources suggest that the song is a love ballad that praises the beauty and virtues of a woman named Calextone, who was a lady from the town of Arouse. The lyrics describe her as having great value and worth, and her beauty and grace are compared to smoke and mist. The composer of the song, Solage, also refers to himself in the refrain with a double meaning, using the spelling soulage. The song is considered a representative example of French secular music from the late fourteenth century. It is not known whether Calextone was a real person or a fictional character created by the composer. Some sources suggest that the song may have been composed for a wedding, possibly that of Jeanne de Boulogne, and that Solage may have been in the service of Gaston Fébus, compte de Foix, who had a financial interest in the marriage. The composer of the song, Solage, was a prominent figure in the Ars subtilior movement, which was characterized by complex rhythms, intricate melodies, and highly stylized notation. The song is considered a representative example of this musical style, which flourished in France during the late medieval period. The song's use of acrostics and double meanings in the lyrics, as well as its intricate musical structure, demonstrate the sophistication and complexity of the Ars subtilior style. Overall, Calextone qui fut dame d'Arouse is an important example of medieval French music and its evolution over time.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bass Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1259401 Composed by Matthew Nunes. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical. 57 pages. Matthew Nunes Music #852688. Published by Matthew Nunes Music (A0.1259401). Listen to this piece hereComposer’s NotesI. Capriccio           This lively capriccio features a bouncy melody that is imitated in canon through the other two clarinets. Then the descending fourth motive introduced early is developed in a series of succinct statements. The movement ends with a three part canon with each clarinet racing against the others.  II. Elegy*          After someone leaves our lives there are lingering reminders of the pain of their absence combined with the sweetness of the happiest memories. The middle section represents a flashback to happier times yet the sustained notes hint that something is not quite right. In the end the melody is unable to resolve as it should yet those around it continue on their way.          *Please note that the bass clarinet player should play soprano clarinet for this movement only.  III. Frenetic           This piece would not have been written were it not for the prodding of my friend and fellow composer Felix Rivera. I would joke with him that he may never write a piece not based on tritones and he quipped back that I may never write a piece for clarinets. I decided it was time to fix not having a clarinet selection in my repertoire and this work is the result. This movement is a frenetic and virtuosic dance based off of Rivera’s signature interval of the tritone. - Matthew NunesWindsor, September 2014 - March 2015.
