Beautiful, easy arrangement of the old Folk Spiritual We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder for 3 Violas.  This Viola Trio begins with a Choral style statement of the tune, then an interplayed division of the three parts.  There are no fancy rhythms or difficult lines for the individual parts; the interest of the piece comes from the extended harmony, the contrasting sections, and the interplay between the parts, making the piece sound more difficult than it really is.  Good, short Beginners recital piece of a well known tune.

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) was a French baroque composer. This piece is one of six sonatas Op.7 originally written for three flutes. It consists of five movements, 1. Gravement, 2. Allemande/Gayment, 3. Lentement, 4. Gavotte en Rondeau, and 5. Gayment. Simple and tightly-contained interaction between three parts. Enjoyable to play with not so high skill in technique.

Appalachia Waltz by Mark O’Connor is the title track from the album featuring O’Connor, Yo-Yo Ma, and Edgar Meyer. The Sony Classical release debuted and then stayed for several months at the No.1 position on Billboard Magazine’s Classical music chart. O’Connor originally composed the piece as a solo for unaccompanied violin in 1993. For the recording with Ma in 1996, O’Connor and Meyer re-arranged the waltz for violin, cello and doublebass. As it currently appears in this manuscript, O’Connor adapts the instrumentation for violin, viola and cello for improved playability. Appalachia Waltz might well be one of Mark O’Connor’s most-loved compositions. It utilizes musical inspiration from Scandinavian and Appalachian folk fiddling, while crafted into a classical music setting. The music is suited for advanced and intermediate levels.
