Instrumental Duet,Piano Clarinet,Flute,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1384127

Composed by Grant Horsley. Classical,Comedy,Contest,Festival,Folk. 30 pages. Grant Horsley #968490. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1384127).

The Court Jester is intended as a descriptive piece. The Jester was a member of the household of a nobleman or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court. Jesters were also traveling performers who entertained common folk at fairs and town markets, and the discipline continues into the modern day, where jesters perform at historical-themed events.

This piece is in ternary form. The outer sections are to represent the general clowning around and playing pranks as a mischievous Jester does. The middle section by contrast is more lyrical to demonstrate a softer side to the personality, however this quickly transcends back to the final section where jokes, pranks and laughs have their way!

It should be performed very briskly and lightly to capture the overall feel of the piece. The range in total is two and a half octaves and it is 4.00 minutes in length- Set at Intermediate level. The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.

Price is for the full score and all parts.

A great addition to the repertoire.

Composed by Grant Horsley. Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Folk,Halloween. 28 pages. Grant Horsley #1044677. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1466074).

A Piano Backing Track is also available. There are also other instrumental versions of this piece including Flute and Clarinet Choirs.

Midnight Carousel is in the deep rich key of D minor to aid to the After Dark mood and mystery The piece has two distinct ideas.

After the introduction a Circus- type Waltz begins, when this is repeated it has a very haunting counter melody which is both lilting and lyrical. As the piece develops, an out of character playful Scherzo theme begins which adds some intensity and mystery surrounding the Midnight Carousel. Both Waltz and Scherzo themes exchange dialogue throughout this section as if wanting some sort of control, when suddenly two accents appear to signify a halt We then return to the opening theme once more to lead us to a finish.
Before the conclusion however, the Scherzo theme re-instates it's ideas before the final bars!

The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability- It has been set to intermediate level as the range is around 2 octaves with some parts less than this.
Mainly Quarter and Eighth notes used throughout- therefore it would be appropriate for some early-intermediate players. It is around 3 mins 30 long Ideal for concerts, contests, productions, halloween, folklore/fantasy themes or simply something different to add to the repertoire

Price is for the score and parts.

These songs are part of a research project aimed at gathering music from around the world using only the first five notes of a major pentachord. Here are 30 songs arranged for flute and clarinet duets that fit this criteria.

The flute part uses the first five notes, and the clarinet part uses only three, making it suitable for beginners. The melodies use whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes, with enlarged notation for easy reading.

Piano accompaniments are included, with simple options for those with limited piano skills. I hope this material enriches your teaching and your students enjoy the journey with just five notes.

Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Historic,Irish,Traditional. 12 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #958281. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1373808).

This is one of the most well-known of all British folksongs and refers to real historical events. It has been used in film and television programs (notably the TV series Outlander) and known to almost everyone in Britain. Skye (also known as “The Isle of Skyeâ€) is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides. With an area of about 640 square miles, the island is about sixty miles long and lies close to the Scottish mainland.

The boat in the song (“Speed bonny boatâ€) refers to a small sailing ship that in 1746 “carried the lad who was born to be king†to the Isle of Skye. The lad in question was Prince Charles Edward Stuart known affectionately as “Bonnie Prince Charlie.†The song also refers to the Battle of Culloden of April 1746, the last ever battle on British soil, fought between the British Army and the army of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

In June 1746 and disguised as a maid-servant, Charles was secretly transported from the Hebridean island of Benbecula to the more southerly Isle of Skye. This is the event to which the song refers. The woodwind parts avoid technical challenges and the piano part is fairly easy. This beautiful folk song would make a spendid addition to your repertoire and aso make a pleasant encore number after a classical recital.

SUMMARY
Have you ever wondered what happens to balloons when they fly away?  Floating, Falling, Flying†depicts the odyssey of two balloons who find themselves suddenly and blissfully untethered.  It presents a musical narrative of their unpredictable journey through the skies, back to earth, and, eventually, into the stratosphere.

The piece was commissioned by Music Teachers National Association for the 2022 National Conference.  It is a trio for oboe, violin and piano written for students at the intermediate to advanced-intermediate level.  Composed in three contiguous movements, it involves three characters – the balloons (portrayed by the oboe and violin) and the wind (represented by the piano).

In the opening movement (Floating), the balloons escape their moorings and ascend into free space, floating playfully among the clouds with the help of a gentle wind. But, as in life, journeys are not always peaceful.  The second movement (Falling) opens with a hint that something is not quite right.  Undaunted, the balloons continue their carefree ascent amid the ominous signs of an approaching storm.  The wind ultimately asserts its authority, pummeling the balloons back to earth.  As they lie helplessly on the ground, they assess each other’s condition and make feeble attempts to relaunch.  But, without wind, their situation seems hopeless.  In the final movement (Flying), hope is restored as a quiet breeze lifts the intrepid pair back into the air.  They resume their skyward adventure with renewed vigor and joy – dancing through the clouds and, ultimately, out of sight.

Floating, Falling, Flying is an exciting and challenging piece appropriate for school concerts, recitals and Solo and Ensemble festivals.

Brian Chung is a pianist, arranger, composer, conference speaker, former Senior Vice Present of Kawai America Corporation, and author or co-author of four books published by Alfred Music.  He was honored to participate in MTNA’s Collaborative Music Commissioning Project with this composition.

Arranged by Len Rhodes. Christian,Christmas,Concert,Sacred. Score and parts. 7 pages. Len Rhodes Music #3881573. Published by Len Rhodes Music (A0.739970).

O Come, O Come, Immanuel, in a contemporary setting for flute, clarinet and piano. The arrangement is marked senza misura - there is an absence of bar lines throughout (alla Erik Satie Gnossiennes!) to give the performers absolute freedom of meter and tempo. The ensemble needs to be a disciplined trio; but technically, each part is not too demanding.

Ideal for Advent, and indeed, the whole Christmas season.

The download includes score and separate flute/clarinet part - (advisable for the woodwinds to see what each player is doing!)
