“Over The Rainbow”, also known as “Somewhere Over The Rainbow, was sung by Judy Garland in the role of Dorothy in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz” and later became her signature song.  An introductory verse (When all the world is a hopeless jumble...) that was omitted from the film is sometimes used in theatrical productions of The Wizard of Oz and other performances and recordings. This arrangement is true to the version performed in the 1939 film and does not include that introduction section.

This first, second and third horns take turns covering the lead melody in this arrangement. All players are free to instill emotion and feeling in their rendition of this iconic piece of music, with the lead playing with some freedom and in a lyrical style.  

The fourth horn part is provided in both treble and bass clef.  This arrangement has been transposed to fit the range of the French horn.

Plusers gens voy is a song composed by the late 14th-century French composer Solage. The song is written for four voices: tenor, contra tenor, cantus, and triplum. The lyrics of the song are Plusers gens voy qui leur pensee / A leur dame ne sont pas nee / Car ele est de si grant beaute / Que nus ne la puet veoir sans faille which translates to More people have seen in their thoughts / That they were not born for their lady / For she is of such great beauty / That no one can see her without failing.

The overall message of Plusers gens voy is a declaration of love and admiration for a lady of great beauty. The lyrics suggest that the lady is so beautiful that it is impossible for anyone to see her without failing. The song is a tribute to the lady's beauty and is likely a reflection of the composer's feelings towards her. The song is a beautiful example of medieval French music and poetry and is still performed and studied today.

This flowing work for 4 horns begins and ends with the tranquility felt when meditating by an icy blue Alpine Lake in the summer of 2023. As a greater exploration of the meditation experience, the middle section is a peek into the out-of-body sensations I felt as I was able to explore the furthest reaches of the lake without moving a muscle. This work should be approached and performed with a sense of exploration, and resolved with a feeling of contentment, as you stare out over the open water.
