This original musical composition called March Rondeau is a Euphonium/Baritone Horn solo in Rondeau form.  The term Rondeau refers to a specific instrumental form popular in the 17th century, featuring a recurring section or refrain that is played throughout the piece. This composition falls within the style of a rondeau.

However, there is nothing else 17th century about this piece.  It’s a lively concert march for solo Euphonium/Baritone Horn with piano accompaniment.

The Rückert Lieder by Gustav Mahler were written between 1901 and 1902, being first premiered in 1905 with Mahler himself conducting. The text of the songs is taken from poems set by Friedrich Rückert, a professor of Oriental languages. Mahler's music, able to convey complex emotions with seemingly simple melodic lines is the perfect vehicle for these poems. Ralph Sauer has taken four of these songs and edited them for performance on the Euphonium. He has also included the original German and English translations of the songs to aid the performers and also the listener to best enjoy the feelings coming from this sublime music. All together the songs are about 15 minutes in length. Although technically not difficult, these songs require a mature interpretation in order to best convey their message.

The Petite Suite, published in 1885, is Borodin's major work for the Piano and originally comprised of seven movements.  Mr. Sauer's arrangement incorporates three of them: Intermezzo, Rêverie and Sérénade.  The Petite Suite was dedicated to the Belgian Countess Louise de Mercy-Argenteau, who was a supporter of Borodin and his music.  After Borodin's death in 1887, Glazunov orchestrated the Suite.

The music has that Eastern flavor so indicative of Borodin's melodies, mysterious, lyrical and subtle.  Advanced performers will enjoy this work of almost 7 minutes which has been so beautifully arranged by Mr. Sauer.

Sérénade is an early work of Rachmaninoff, from a grouping of five short solo Piano pieces titled Morceau de Fantasie written in 1892 and dedicated to his harmony teacher Anton Arensky.  

One of his most famous works, the Prélude in C-sharp minor is from this same Opus 3.  

Opus 3, No. 5 in B-flat minor is the final work of the set and is in a gentle Waltz style, sometimes venturing into the Dorian mode.

Rachmaninoff's lush harmonies and gorgeous melody work very well for the Euphonium with this fine arrangement by Ralph Sauer.

For advanced performers, this movement is about 5 minutes in length.
