A Summer Night for euphonium and piano is based on the composer's vocal setting of Elizabeth Drew Stoddard's sensuous poem.  It begins with a languorous melody, evocative of a warm summer evening. The middle section suggests the light fluttering of flying insects in the evening. For the final section, the sensuous melody intensifies, becoming the speaker's plea for the Night to present a lover. The plea then softens to a humble entreaty and the song ends as gently as it began.  .

This is an arrangement for solo instrument and piano pitched at around the level of ABRSM Grade 4/5 for most instruments. The range of notes is very compact with the difficulty steming from the often complicated rhythms and also the opening statement of the main theme is unaccompanied requiring the soloist to play with confidence and accuracy. The use of syncopated rhythms makes this an excellent repertoire piece.Heaven Is a Place on Earth is a single by American singer Belinda Carlisle from her second studio album, Heaven on Earth (1987). Written by Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley, the song was released as the lead single from the Heaven on Earth album on September 14, 1987, and it reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 on December 5, 1987, becoming Carlisle's only US chart-topper to date. A month later it peaked at number one in the United Kingdom, where it held the top spot of the UK Singles Chart for two weeks. In Australia it peaked at number 2. Gordon Cherry #399185. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.791973). The Rückert Lieder by Gustav Mahler were written between 1901 and 1902, being first premiered in 1905 with Mahler himself conducting. The text of the songs is taken from poems set by Friedrich Rückert, a professor of Oriental languages. Mahler's music, able to convey complex emotions with seemingly simple melodic lines is the perfect vehicle for these poems. Ralph Sauer has taken four of these songs and edited them for performance on the Euphonium. He has also included the original German and English translations of the songs to aid the performers and also the listener to best enjoy the feelings coming from this sublime music. All together the songs are about 15 minutes in length. Although technically not difficult, these songs require a mature interpretation in order to best convey their message.

Alexander Borodin was actually trained as a chemist and physician and spent a good deal of his time promoting womens’ issues, much to the consternation of his fellow composers who wound up finishing up much of his work after his sudden death at the age of 53. The opera Prince Igor is possibly his greatest and boldest work with many beautiful melodies coming forth, especially the Chorus and Dance of the Polovetsain Maidens from Act II. The music has an mysterious Eastern sound which is very captivating.There is nothing like this written for the Euphonium and Mr. Sauer’s arrangement is wonderful.This work is about 7 minutes in length for advanced performers.
