Probably comes from the idea that Australia has many dangerous animals, and koalas do have quite sharp claws they can use if need be. If dehydrated they can drop from trees. The drop bear is said to be bigger than a usual koala, and is a carnivorous animals that can drop from high branches on unsuspecting animals. Here he is evil but also a cool dude riding the branches and flying through the air. Enjoy!

In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Edward Elgar in 2007, I was able to celebrate one of my favorite composers with transcriptions of the ninth (and probably the most famous and best-loved) variation, Nimrod, from his orchestral work, ENIGMA VARIATIONS - My Friends Pictured Within. Here is a new transcription for Bassoon and Piano.Elgar had written a special program note, and I quote a part. ...the Variation bearing this name (Nimrod) is a record of a long summer evening talk, when my friend - A.J. Jaeger - grew nobly eloquent on the grandeur of Beethoven and especially of his slow movements. A reference to the Adagio of the Pathétique Sonata is therefore seen in the opening bars of the Nimrod Variation.This download includes part and score.

The first of these bears the subtitle A Litany for Bassoon and Piano and contains elements of bitonality within a modified sonata form. A brief cadenza after the recapitulation leads to a closing section reminiscent of a modal folksong. The second movement begins with a march-like character, but changes tempo and style several times before the dramatic conclusion. Bruce Gbur, bassoon, and Slawomir Dobrzanski, piano, presented the first performance of the Nabokov Sonata for Bassoon and Piano on a recital at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, on 27 February 2007. That performance was made possible through the kind permission of Mme. Dominique Nabokov, New York Ci_ty, and Richard Workman of the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, Austin. I would also like to thank Mme. Nabokov and Mr. Workman for granting permission for the publication of this work. I am indebted to my friend Slawomir Dobrzanski for adding his fingerings to the piano score for this publication. I believe that the Nabokov Sonata for Bassoon and Piano will prove to be a significant addition to the bassoonists' twentieth-century recital repertoire.
