This easy arrangement for trombone quartet has been adapted to be simple to perform and understand the period minuet form of the original work for various levels of musical knowledge. It can be freely played by beginning students due to the ease built into the piece in relation to the author's suggested interpretation. Recommended for performance in academic recitals, and public festivals, it also serves as a study of Baroque repertoire. This famous piece has traditionally been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, as it appears in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena , a notebook that Bach gave to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725 and which was to be filled with the favorite selections of Bach family members. However, recent research has concluded that this minuet, sometimes referred to as BWV Anhang 114. was probably composed by Christian Petzold, a German composer and organist contemporary with Bach.

Johann Jacob Froberger (May 18, 1616 – May 7, 1667) was a German Baroque composer, keyboard virtuoso, and organist. He was very well known during his lifetime, and modern scholars consider him to be one of the most important keyboard composers before Johann Sebastian Bach. The Ricercare No. 13 and Fantasia No. 1 for Four Trombones arranged by Ralph Sauer are two wonderfully composed contrapuntal works that are a joy to perform. They are possibly the best works from a collection of his numerous keyboard compositions.

Adaptation for trombone quartet of Luigi Boccherini’s String Quintet in E major, Op. 11, No. 5, G 275. Ideal for beginner students in classical music with the help of a teacher. The original essence of the work was maintained, with adaptations in tonality and tessitura of the instruments. Can be used in professional and academic recitals, didactic material and repertoire for ensemble practice. Boccherini was born in Lucca, Italy, and became a cello virtuoso. He moved to Spain, where he worked with the Spanish royal family. The third movement of the quintet, minuet and trio, is famous and often played as an independent piece. The work is beautiful and has good partial writing for all instruments, with melodies and rhythms typical of Boccherini. Suitable for concerts and home performances.

This is a classic tune.  All players get a chance to play the melody.  Bb above the staff is the highest note in the first trombone part.  A good high school quartet or a college quartet should have no trouble with this arrangement. .

Scott Joplin (c. 1868 - 1917) was an American composer and pianist. Joplin achieved fame for his ragtime compositions and was dubbed the King of Ragtime. During his brief career, he wrote over 100 original ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. One of his first and most popular pieces, the Maple Leaf Rag, became ragtime's first and most influential hit, and has been recognized as the archetypal rag.
