Pastime with Good Company, also known as The King's Ballad (The Kynges Balade), is an English folk song written by King Henry VIII in the beginning of the 16th century, shortly after his coronation. It is regarded as the most famous of his compositions, and it became a popular song in England and other European countries during the Renaissance. It is thought to be written for Catherine of Aragon.

This is a simplified arrangement of the Rondo from The Abdelazer Suite by Henry Purcell for Trombone Quartet.

Abdelazer is a 1676 play by Aphra Behn. Purcell wrote this suite of incidental music in 1695 containing 10 movements, of which the Rondo is the 2nd. This movement was used by Benjamin Britten as the theme for his set of variations The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra , which is probably where you recognise it from.

Here is a description by composer Henry Wolking of his beautifully expressive new work for trombone quartet, Another Today.

Another Today for trombone quartet was composed in the spring of 2020. This will most certainly join a long list of other compositions written by homebound composers during the beginning of the worldwide pandemic. Another Today is a seven and a half minute single movement concert work with several contrasting sections. Though hard to categorize, it is lively, energetic, and highly expressive. I rate it at the medium-difficult level of difficulty. The ranges are moderate but are highly rhythmic. I feel it is one of the most expressive chamber brass works of my career.

Let us wander was originally written for the opera The Indian Queen. Unfortunately Purcell died before the opera could be completed but he did manage to finish several arias and instrumental sections of the work, including this song.

This is a great recital piece where all members of the quartet get a chance to play the melody.  The highest note is G above the staff.  There is a nice key change and a modulation back to the home key in the first ending.  This should be playable by a good high school quartet.  Give this march meoldy a try.
