Since being introduced to the rest of the world in April 1959 by Harry Balafonte at Carnegie Hall it has grown in popularity to be a mega-hit, played everywhere, by everyone! The song's origins are from the Ukraine and words were added in 1918 by Israeli musicologist Abraham Idelsohn.
