The bell-like sounds of the vibraphone are reminiscent of singing bowls used in Tibetan Buddhism. The performer is encouraged to allow the sounds to resonate and fill the air with cool and clear interference patterns.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World was somewhat of an afterthought during the 1985 recording of Songs from the Big Chair.  Initially regarded as not fitting with the rest of the album, the song was written and recorded in two weeks and placed at the end of the track listing.  After its release, however, the song went on to be awarded Best Single at the Brit Awards the following year and was awarded a 2015 BMI award for 6 million radio airplays. Not sure if anyone has an opinion of this song other than it will never get old.  This arrangement for solo vibraphone is an up-tempo shuffle and based on the radio/MTV edit, and endeavors to capture the easy feeling of an enjoyable song from the 1980s.

Ceremony II was written for the French virtuoso Emmanuel Sejourne. The work presents the vibraphone with an astonishing array of instrumental timbres. It uses a number of contemporary techniques including playing with a double bass bow, harmonics, note glissandi, playing with the pad of the fingers and the finger nails etc. The five movements may be played all together or individually. Some of the various moods presented are meditative, fast virtuoso, light and wistful, and questioning. The total duration is 19 minutes. This is a manuscript score, thus the reduced price.

Each of the three movements evokes a different musical ambiance. Slow and meditative for movements 1 & 3 and lively and energetic for the 2nd movement. The player will need four vibraphone mallets. The duration is about 15 minutes.
