By Duke Ellington. By Duke Ellington/Barney Bigard. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 21st Century,Jazz,Standards. 14 pages. Keith Terrett #863780. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1271383).

C Jam Blues is a jazz standard composed in 1942 by Duke Ellington and performed by countless other musicians, such as Dave Grusin, Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, and Charles Mingus, arranged here for Saxophone Quintet.

As the title suggests, the piece follows a twelve-bar blues form in the key of C major. The tune is well known for being extremely easy to play, with the entire melody featuring only two notes: G and C.

A performance typically features several improvised solos. The melody likely originated from the clarinetist Barney Bigard in 1941, but its origin is not perfectly clear.

It was also known as Duke's Place, with lyrics added by Bill Katts, Bob Thiele and Ruth Roberts.

Ellington's black and white film was produced in 1942. The video depicts a jam session where Ellington begins playing with a double bass before gradually being joined by other members of his band, among them drummer Sonny Greer and trumpeter Rex Stewart. The film title is Jam Session. Western Swing band leader Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded the song sometime between 1945 and 1947 as part of the Tiffany Transcriptions. Bill Doggett recorded a version on his 1958 tribute album Salute to Duke Ellington (King). C Jam Blues was used by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band as the basis of their song The Intro and the Outro. Mulgrew Miller and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen included the song in their 1999 album The Duets. The Dave Brubeck Quartet performed this live at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival; the recording appears in their album Newport 1958. YouTube Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOlpcJhNyDI.

Composed by Kenny Jacobson, Moe Koffman, and Rhoda Roberts. Arranged by James Pybus. Contemporary,Jazz. 13 pages. James Pybus #6089955. Published by James Pybus (A0.764721).

Swinging Shepherd Blues is a well-known tune by Moe Koffman, originally titled Blues a la Canadiana and renamed Swinging (or 'Swingin') Shepherd Blues in l957 when it was recorded by the composer, playing the flute, for the LP Hot and Cool Sax. Among more than 300 recordings of the tune are versions by Count Basie, Herbie Mann, Mantovani, and David Rose. A vocal rendition, with lyrics by Rhoda Roberts and Kenny Jacobson, has been recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, and more recently by Natalie Cole. The tune has also been recorded by various Canadians, from Oscar Peterson to the Edmonton Youth Orchestra. Koffman used Swinging Shepherd Blues as his signature tune until 2000. This arrangement is playable by SATBBs Saxophone Quintet with substitute parts for Soprano (1st Alto), Baritone (2nd Tenor) and Bass (2nd Baritone). Duration is 2:25. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.

SKU: A0.946350

Composed by Unknwon (Scottish Folk Music). Arranged by Benjamin Karaca. Celtic,Irish,Multicultural,Patriotic,Renaissance,Traditional,World. 16 pages. Benjamin Karaca #6339839. Published by Benjamin Karaca (A0.946350).

This piece of music is named after Robert the Bruce (or Robert I), King of Scots in the early 14th century. It was likely brought to France by Scottish soldiers who were supporting France in the war against England, hence the French title. The song itself is most likely based on the patriotic Scottish song Scots Wha Hae, which, in turn, derives from the old Scottish melody Hey Tuttie Tatie.

This piece of music is often performed by pipe bands. It is typically played in the key of B-flat major (F Mixolydian). For this arrangement, I transposed it to E-flat major (B-flat Mixolydian), which better suits the saxophone's range.
Originally, I had in mind the instrumentation SAATB. However, I have included the following substitute parts: The second part can be played by either a Soprano or Alto Sax. The third and fourth parts can be played by either an Alto or Tenor Sax. The fifth part can be played by either a Baritone or Bass Saxophone.

Saxophone Quintet SAATB, SATTB (and many other lineups) and Snare Drum. Level: 2/5.

Part 1: Soprano Sax
Part 2: Soprano Sax / Alto Sax
Part 3: Alto Sax / Tenor Sax
Part 4: Alto Sax / Tenor Sax
Part 5: Baritone Sax / Bass Sax
Snare Drum
Score in C

A high-quality arrangement by a professional musician. It also includes interesting information about the piece and helpful tips for interpretation. For more information, please visit my website:
