Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6013301. Published by David McKeown (A0.588789). The Londonderry Air is among the best loved melodies of Ireland. This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe. The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. David McKeown #6212681. Published by David McKeown (A0.590550). GrĆ”, (Irish for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe. This duet is inspired by the Irish sean-nós style of singing. Originally sung unaccompanied in the Irish Gaelic language, in more recent times the melodies have been adapted as instrumentals, harmonised and given accompaniment. The songs are most often about love and loss and GrĆ” aims to capture this melancholy mood.GrĆ” is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. Expressive throughout, the first part of the melody is played above a drone. Simple accompaniment then builds towards a climax before the melody slips away like a distant echo. Players can add their own appropriate ornaments and variations to the melody if they wish. GrĆ” has a performance time of a little over three minutes. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe.Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. ŲŲØ (Hubb, Arabic for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world. This duet is inspired by the Andalusi music of the Maghreb. The music is thought to have originated in Muslim Spain a thousand years ago and spread across North Africa in the following centuries. The music is set to the ancient Muwasha poetry, often with secular themes such as love. Andalusi music remains popular today, especially in Morocco, and has influenced many other forms of Arab music. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe.It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo.  7.40pm is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. Instrumental Duet Flute,Instrumental Duet,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.833940 By A. Copland, Judy Collins. By Shaker Hymn Hymn. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Christmas,Easter,Praise & Worship,Spiritual,Traditional. Score and parts. 4 pages. Chicory Music #440746. Published by Chicory Music (A0.833940). 'Simple Gifts' was a dancing song. The Shakers called it a quick dance. There are words in the song about bowing and bending and turning, and the Shakers actually did that as they sang those words. The song was both an instruction for dancing as well as an instruction for life. The song was limited to the Shakers until Copland popularized the melody in his 1944 ballet score, Appalachian Spring. In the 1960s, Carter's hymn carried the tune into churches. It wasn't until 1970 that folk singer Judy Collins resurrected the original words of Simple Gifts and performed it nationwide.

Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #6022229. Published by David McKeown (A0.589311). Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Oboe. Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment.
