They have been arranged for various instrumental combinations each of which are available on this site: clarinet, flute, oboe, violin, viola or cello with piano and ... clarinet, flute, oboe, violin, viola or cello with guitar In each case the sound sample is an electronic preview of the first song. All three of Schubert's setting of words from Goethe's Wilhelm Meister (with my singing translation in English) (Wer sich der Einsamkeit ergibt [Who gives himself to solitude], Wer nie sein Brot mit Tränen ass [Who never ate his bread with tears], An die Türen [I will creep up to the doors]) transposed to the key of E minor for clarinet and guitar. In some places the guitar part is simplified in comparison to the original piano part in order to improve the flowing quality. A version for clarinet and piano, also in E minor, is also available The sound sample is an electronic preview of the first song. The three songs are also available individually on this site.

Ningal is a slave girl at the time of the Pharoahs in Egypt (ironically named after the Sumerian-Akkadian Goddess, mother of the Sun God). When the Egyptian queen dies, Ningal is one of the slaves who have to follow her into the tomb and to die there. This is her simple but effective song (Now is the time of our going into darkness, from darkness to light). The sound sample is an electronic preview. The alto voice and guitar version is also available here. A version is also available for flute and guitar, appearing as the last movement of the music for the stage play ATON.
