Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.577530 Composed by Anon. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Classical,Renaissance,World. Score and parts. 6 pages. David Warin Solomons #1985939. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.577530). Instrumental duo based on an anonymous 15th century macaronic song about a girl who was made pregnant, and then abandoned, by a cleric. The melody is taken by the guitar in with variations in the middle, while the melody instrument has a countermelody, and then, in the final section, the melody instruments provides a few divisions. The sound sample is an electronic preview For interest here are the words of the original song with my translation of the Latin bits: Up I arose in verno tempore [in springtime] and found a maiden sub quadam arbore [under some tree] that did complain in suo pectore [in her bosom] saying I feel puerum movere [the little boy moving] Adieu pleasures antiquo tempore, [in times gone by] full oft with you solebam ludere. [I used to play] but for my sins mihi deridere [they hold me in derision] with right good cause incipio flere [I start to weep] Now what shall I say meis parentibus, [to my parents] because I lay with quidam clericus [some man of the cloth] They will beat me cum virgis et fustibus [with sticks and clubs] and me sore chaste coram omnibus [in front of everybody] With the said child quid faciam [what shall I do] shall I it keep vel interficiam [or kill it] If I slay it quo loco fugiam [where shall I flee to] I shall lose God et vitam eternam [and eternal life].

Small Ensemble Clarinet,Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.576904 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,World. Score and parts. 14 pages. David Warin Solomons #506803. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576904). Instrumental arrangement of my classical-folk crossover setting of Prévert's poem Pour faire le portrait d'un oiseau (To paint the portrait of a bird).  Prévert indicates that you can never capture the real essence of a bird. You can paint a cage, a tree branch for it to sing on, but you have to wait for the actual bird itself to enter your painting - only then can you sign your painting, using a feather from that bird. The music has a Dorian feel - ie with a minor third and seventh but often with a raised sixth - (in this case F#s in an otherwise A minor context). I have provided full score and separate parts and also the melody instrument part with chord names, to enable the guitarist to read along with the melody instrument player and opt for interpretations other than the notated version (eg strumming, rasgueado etc). The sound sample is an electronic preview. My live performance of the original song can be heard on youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkjYONGdicI

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576894 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 3 pages. David Warin Solomons #496549. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576894). Instrumental arrangement of my setting of four poems by Carol Batton Carol Batton is a Manchester based poet. Her writing deals with a wide range of subjects including environmental issues and the difficult topic of mental illness. Her poetry can be sad, witty, angry and above all full of her strength of spirit. In fact, she has been described as 'the poet laureate of the survivors movement'. The poems are as follows: The clocks move tonight. Nothing moves but the clocks. The Universe stays the same. Then why does darkness drag in early? Why the days go damp and dreary? Like an unkind remark turning beauty to hurt, the wind ransacks the pink blossom. A new tree starting out managed the first inch up and the first inch down; it was not to be the minority who make maturity. A leaf clings with all it has to the tree: Falling is painless.
