Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Guitar,Instrumental Duet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575956 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 9 pages. David Warin Solomons #431467. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.575956). Three words too many (say it in words and you cheat, you cheat the indefinable). This was originally a song, which I wrote back in my tender years (also available on this site for alto and guitar), but it also works equally well as an instrumental piece. I have therefore also provided versions on this site for guitar with: flute alto saxophone French horn English horn (cor anglais) clarinet oboe violin. After a gentle introductory major chord arpeggio, the tension of the piece comes into play from the third bar where the melody line holds and repeats an augmented 4th suspension above the guitar. This note then returns as the arpeggio chords change underneath to reveal it as a minor third of a chord related by three degrees of separation from the original - C major to E flat minor. The harmonies and melody continue to sway in their relations in a curious and yet logical progression. I have provided score and parts and also a separate version of the guitar part which provides chord names and fretboard symbols; this would make it useful for educational purposes. The sound sample is an electronic preview.

The melody is taken by the guitar in with variations in the middle, while the melody instrument has a countermelody, and then, in the final section, the melody instruments provides a few divisions. The sound sample is an electronic preview For interest here are the words of the original song with my translation of the Latin bits: Up I arose in verno tempore [in springtime] and found a maiden sub quadam arbore [under some tree] that did complain in suo pectore [in her bosom] saying I feel puerum movere [the little boy moving] Adieu pleasures antiquo tempore, [in times gone by] full oft with you solebam ludere. [I used to play] but for my sins mihi deridere [they hold me in derision] with right good cause incipio flere [I start to weep] Now what shall I say meis parentibus, [to my parents] because I lay with quidam clericus [some man of the cloth] They will beat me cum virgis et fustibus [with sticks and clubs] and me sore chaste coram omnibus [in front of everybody] With the said child quid faciam [what shall I do] shall I it keep vel interficiam [or kill it] If I slay it quo loco fugiam [where shall I flee to] I shall lose God et vitam eternam [and eternal life].

David Warin Solomons #38753. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576598). This jaunty number in swing time was originally a satirical song for alto and piano or alto and guitar (Looking just looking at the personal ads) - which is also available on this site. I decided that the music on its own without words (but with a few variations) would also work well... so here is Springtime jaunt. Versions are available for clarinet and piano, clarinet and guitar, flute and piano and flute and guitar The pdf file contains score and separate part The sound sample is an electronic preview.

Clarinet,Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1268819 By András Csáki and Balázs Rumy. By David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Contemporary. Full Performance. Duration 140. David Warin Solomons #861350. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1268819). This is part of a project composed for a group based on the Old Kent Road in London. They provided some lyrics which I set to music for them (around 1982), but the project never took off.I never met the person to whom the letter was addressed (called Howard Nicholls apparently...)but I got the impression that he did exist and meant a great deal to the group. The words (now lost) certainly brought out a romantic theme within the project.I decided recently that this particular theme would work nicely for a simple clarinet and guitar combinationIt is performed here byBalázs Rumy clarinetAndrás Csáki guitar.

David Warin Solomons #485671. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576887). Instrumental duo based on my setting of Dave Dunning's poem To Idleness. The pdf file contains score and parts. The sound sample is an electronic preview. These are the words of the original poem: When autumn harvests are full grown and luscious fruits to me are shown, piled plump and rich till stomachs groan when autumn harvests are full grown ripe juices puddle on the tongue, and winter I forget in gurgling song. once when the fresh new spring was here I lavished though to sow the year oh dreaming seasons never interfere with worldly bounty, scorned the prudent song and prayed March winds to buffet time along Soon in the heat of summer haze I floundered on through deep green maize, where heavy herds lowed as they grazed, I saw that I would reap in thought among the rich; and time moved on with busy song, now in the heat of summer Now winter creeps between the sashes and rain upon the window lashes while wild wind moans round rafters dashes and I to annual poverty belong, yet know that spring flows richly on in song When autumn harvests are full grown and luscious fruits to me are shown, piled plump and rich till stomachs groan when autumn harvests are full grown ripe juices puddle on the tongue, and winter I forget in gurgling song.

===== Belovèd art, in dark times when I wander When all life's wild confusion gathers round You light my heart with love and warmth so tender And rouse me with your wondrous heav'nly sound And rouse me with your heav'nly sound And from your harp a chord of sweetness leads me A holy sigh from greatest heaven above and with the hope of better times feeds me Belovèd art, 'tis you, 'tis you I love Belovèd art, 'tis you I love (singing translation by David Warin Solomons (c) 2015).
