While they do have a suggestively masculine tone, a female singer with the right irreverence and attitude could certainly bring them off. This scary Latin American folk song is perfect for Halloween!  And, with both Spanish and English lyrics, it’s a great tune, in both musical style and dramatic narrative,  for students.  I advise using it only for high school age and older singers, however, due to the story it tells of the selfish and deadly Llorona’s history. The audio samples are from the very beginning of the arrangement and the closing.

This arrangement, in the key of G, is appropriate for a medium high singer, with a range of just over an octave (D to E).   It is also available on SMP for medium low voice (Key of F - range C to D) and high voice (Key of Bb - range F to G).
