This short song was originally written as incidental music for Play 10 (The Princes of this World) from Dorothy L. Sayers' 12-play radio drama 'The Man Born to be King' (1941). Soldiers' Marching Song is unaccompanied and written in an appropriately modal and folk-like style. The piece is appropriate for most standards of solo bass voice (with the option of adding other male singers).
