Stand by Me was originally released by the co-writer Ben E King in 1960 and is the sixth highest royalty earning song of all time.  However, King never intended to record the song himself. The story goes he had some studio time left over after a session and the producer asked him if he had any other songs they could put on tape. When King sat at the piano and performed Stand by Me, the producer recognised a huge hit in the making. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Trumpet.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around three minutes. 

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing. In My Life by the Beatles, was released on the 1965 album, Rubber Soul. It was chiefly written and sung by John Lennon, who claimed it was his first serious attempt at personal song-writing. The song features a baroque style piano solo by George Martin. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed. The resulting tinny sound gave rise to a host of copycat harpsichord solos on contemporary pop songs.

This version of In My Life is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Trumpet.

Most of the duet is straightforward though the transcribed piano solo is difficult for both players; these eight bars can be skipped without affecting the overall structure of the song. John Newton, led a dissolute life as sailor in the slave trade for many years before marriage, along with a close encounter with death at sea, dramatically changed his perspective. He lived out his later years as a devout and charismatic clergyman in the English countryside, renowned for his direct and personal style.
