Advancing trombonists will enjoy this fun song from the 50’s. Originally recorded by the Gaylords in 1954 and Petula Clark in the ‘60’s, the song tells the story of a cobbler (“little shoemakerâ€) thinking of his heart-throb while he works at making shoes for her dance in: tap-tap-tap-tap-tap. This pop tune from days gone by is suitable for pops concerts, outdoor events and other special occasions. Dynamics should be observed carefully, especially when the Bass has the lead. Staccato passages need not be too short; they should imitate the shoemaker’s tap-tap-tap. First trombone goes to high Ab; Bass needs a good low C (below the staff).
