Mr. Sauer's new arrangement has used all of Saint-Saen's music and he has scored it for 8 trombones with an optional 9th part on contra bass trombone. The Adagio was one of the Chief's (Emory Remington's) favourites; the late Mrs. Laura Remington had been the long-time organist with the Rochester Philharmonic and hearing the music would bring back a flood of memories often with tears. The range is conservative with an occasional high B-flat.  Jacob Handl was an Austrian composer of Slovene descent, born in Ljubljana. Choirmaster to the Bishop of Olmutz 1579-1585, he lived thereafter in Prague as an organist.
