After the introduction a Circus- type Waltz begins, when this is repeated it has a very haunting counter melody which is both lilting and lyrical. As the piece develops, an out of character playful Scherzo theme begins which adds some intensity and mystery surrounding the Midnight Carousel. Both Waltz and Scherzo themes exchange dialogue throughout this section as if wanting some sort of control, when suddenly two accents appear to signify a halt We then return to the opening theme once more to lead us to a finish. Before the conclusion however, the Scherzo theme re-instates it's ideas before the final bars!The whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability- It has been set to intermediate level as the range is around 2 octaves with some parts less than this. Mainly Quarter and Eighth notes used throughout- therefore it would be appropriate for some early-intermediate players.It is around 3 mins 30 long and price is for full score and all parts.Ideal for concerts, contests, productions, halloween, folklore/fantasy themes or simply something different to add to the repertoire.

This work consists of three short movements in irregular meters.  The contrabass part is not optional but may be played on a regular bass flute if no contra is available.  The first movement, Stomp is in 9/8, conducted in 4: (initially 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 changing to 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 halfway through) with a heavy pulse and a bluesy chord progression in E minor. The second movement, Waltz is in 3 (3 + 3 + 2) with a momentary straight 3 in the middle section. This sweet little melody in G major is a bright contrast to the aggressive first movement. The final movement, Reeling is in 5/8 (2 + 3) with a brief detour to 2/4 near the end, in E major. It is a joyous dizzy layering of twirling notes in the upper voices against a rising grounded melody in the lower voices.  Each movement is 2 ½ to 3 minutes in length. Each voice is unique, so all parts are required, including both contra parts. You may add piccolo players (one on each part) to double the first and second flute parts. This piece is a typical example of Gabrieli’s masterful counterpoint. Keep all notes cleanly separated as though they were marked staccato, especially repeated notes. Bring out the moving notes and drop back on longer notes.

This is the scherzo movement, the country dance and festivities. It runs about 6 minutes. The movement ends abruptly in ms 264 and continues immediately to movement 4, the storm, without missing a beat.  However, here I have taken the liberty to suggest an alternate ending in case you want to play this movement by itself. Add some hand-claps or small percussion at your discretion. The contrabass flute part is essential, but can be covered by regular bass flute if you don’t have a contra. Put as many players on the bottom parts as you have big flutes available. Don’t take the dotted rhythm literally; it should be triplets (quarter + eighth), or “swing� eighth notes. Josef Anton Bruckner was a deeply religious man.  Born in Austria, his father was his first music teacher who taught him to play the organ.  It was noted that he was so dedicated to music that he often practiced up to 12 hours a day.This Ave Maria was performed during his debut as a composer and conductor in 1861.  It was later published in Vienna in 1867.Although this is a sacred motet, as an instrumental piece, it can be performed in any setting.  Scored for flute choir - 5 C, alto, and bass.  Optional parts are contrabass and cello (doubling the bass part).  This is not a difficult piece, but it requires good breath support to sustain long tones in tune at a slow tempo.Duration: 2.5 minutes.
