Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute,Piccolo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.749400 Composed by James-Michael Sellers. Contemporary. 29 pages. JMS Composer #4835911. Published by JMS Composer (A0.749400). Petrichor is the scientific name given to the earthy smell of rain coming into contact with the ground. The work starts with the image of the rain just beginning to occur, with finger snaps, leg slaps, and the sound of palms rubbing together simulating the rain fall. The music starts at a slow tempo and increases over the length of the piece as the downpour accelerates. By the end, one might even imagine walking out onto a porch to enjoy watching the rain continue to fall, as it offers up even a moment of peace. From a rehearsal standpoint, Petrichor is not technically demanding. It focuses on the patterns that occur during rainfall, using them to help build towards the exciting conclusion. Working each pattern independently before bringing them together is very helpful, as it will help lock in the mix of rhythms. The opening does not need to feel rushed and should be allowed to breathe, and each increase in the tempo should not be telegraphed, but should flow from the previous tempo. The ending combines straight eighths and sixteenths with a running triplet pattern between them; the triplet pattern should feel like it sits on top of everything else, almost floating along like a cloud. This was a pleasure to compose, and I hope you enjoy rehearsing and performing Petrichor.

Twitter, founded in March of 2006, is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to post short messages of no more that 140 characters. Because it works as an application on cell phones people can share information immediately.  In its short time, Twitter has become embedded in our increasingly networked society. The composition Twitter takes five famous tweets-some serious, others funny, and some historic and presents a musical interpretation.  In keeping with the idea that a tweet is a short message, each movement of Twitter is approximately 140 seconds long. 1.  There’s a plane in the Hudson.  I’m on the ferry going to pick up the people.  Crazy.  Janis Krums, 12:36 p.m. Jan15, 2009Janis Krums posted this text and the first photo of US Airways flight 1549 moments after the plane made an emergency landing in the Hudson River after hitting a flock of birds.  His quick action helped to notify rescue workers and the media.  2.  Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial.  Somebody help me.Conan O’Brien, 3:54 p.m. Feb. 24, 2009 Shortly after being dismissed from the Tonight Show and finding himself in-between jobs, Conan O’Brien joined Twitter.  As with many celebrities, a Twitter account can allow fans to stay in touch and feel connected.  What was amazing in this case was that in just two hours after this first tweet he had over 125,000 followers-the largest number ever in such a short time.  His number has since grown to nearly 3 million. 3.  ArrestedJames Buck, 9:30 a.m. April  10 A graduate student from the University of California-Berkeley, James Buck was covering an anti-government protest in Egypt.  Buck was caught up in a demonstration, and while being taken to jail had time to post a one-word tweet-arrested.  Within seconds colleagues in the United States got word of his arrest and notified the university, the US Embassy, and a number of press organizations on his behalf, leading to his freedom. 4.  We just made history.  All of this happened because you gave your time, talent and passion.  All of this happened because of you.  Thanks. Barack Obama, 11:34 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008 The Obama 2008 campaign was historic on a number of counts, and the use of technology and social media was one of them.  This tweet was sent to over 2.6 million followers just after the election. 5.  Are you ready to celebrate? Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548649 Composed by J. S. Bach, 1685 - 1750. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Easter,Wedding. 34 pages. Jmsgu3 #3407871. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548649). Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring from Bach's Cantata 147, arranged for flute choir: piccolo, 3 flutes, alto flute, bass flute, double contrabass flute (optional) and cello (optional). Score: 19 pg. Parts: 2 pg. Duration with optional repeat: 7:36 Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring Bach composed a cantata called Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Though it is the 32nd cantata, it is listed as BWV 147. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is the 10th movement of the cantata. It was customary to use previous melodies as a basis for a new work - a practice called Cantus prius factus. So, the chorale melody for this piece is a historic tune called Werde munter, mein Gemüthe. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring is customarily performed at weddings, and during major church seasons such as Easter and Christmas. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, in addition to his complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development, his sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival                Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

Jmsgu3 #3556989. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549859). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140. Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 10 pages, Program this for church services during the Easter season, weddings, or as a recital encore.Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as: Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire annual church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the chorale prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – in a manner similar to the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the watchmen singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears it catches the listener at times totally off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. You can also use wind chimes, a little xylophone, bells, etc.  The idea is to create a magical mood without overpowering the music.  Play this part wherever there is a note in the measure. Always keep the melody prominent.  The piccolo should always be played softly - at the equivalent volume of the group’s piano.  Play this slowly and freely, with a lot of rubato.  Duration: 3.75 minutes.

Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773299). Four of the world's classic love songs arranged for flute choir:Aura Lea -- An American song from the civil war period, that became the basis of Elvis Presley's smash hit Love me tenderPlaisir D'Amour -- Written in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini, this song is as fresh today as the day it was written. Elvis adapted this song as well, in his popular Can't help falling in love with you.Hayu Leilot -- little known outside of Israel, this breathtaking song tells the story of love and loss in the days of the first Jewish settlements in Palestine.Salut D'Amour -- Edward Elgar was a penniless and unknown composer in 1888 when, smitten by his love for the aristocratic Caroline Alice Roberts, he wrote this haunting melody. Over her family's stern objections, she married Elgar, who went on to be Britain's leading composer of the time, knighted for his contribution to British music.I hope you enjoy playing these as much as I enjoyed writing them. If you enjoy this, you are welcome to try some of my other arrangements. You can see them at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/yoel-epstein-sheet-music/3001988?ac=1. Lisa L Ochoco #768254. Published by Lisa L Ochoco (A0.1167899). If you’ve ever seen a funny video on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, etc., chances are that you’ve heard this tune before…many many times.  It makes cute and funny videos, well, cuter and funnier.Kevin Macleod wrote this cute and funny tune, and it’s written to loop until the video ends.  The longer the video, the higher it goes (I think, although having a cute video last more than 5 minutes may wear you out.)  While I could have modulated it 5 times, I didn’t.  There is one key change, and after that key change, this cute and funny tune goes Radio City Rockette-ish before definitely coming to an end at around the 2 minute mark.Scored for flute choir – 4 C, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes.  There is an optional cello part that can help bring out the staccato notes in the contrabass, which can also be played by any C instrument in a similar range, such as a bassoon. This would be a great recital opener, closer, or filler.  Or, you could have a few members of your group act out a cute and funny scene to it.  The possibilities are endless!Duration: 2 minutes.

Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813487 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Baroque,Multicultural,Standards,Wedding,World. 36 pages. Regis Bookshar #6265581. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813487). Canon in D (Pachelbel) (D) (Flute Octet) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon in D, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Flute Octet. Three Flutes play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other five instruments. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (36 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, as is the original version, but, if you prefer, another version, written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, is also available. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon In D have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
