This beginner/intermediate C flute choir arrangement is festive and bright, sure to please flutists and audiences alike. Piccolo, 3 C flutes, and an optional beginner flute part.  Flute 1-3 carry the load here, and piccolo adds great cheer. The easy flute part allows you to include even your newest beginners. It only contains 5 notes: C, B, A, G, F#. The rhythm can be learned as a groove even if the students can't quite count it yet. Published by JMS Composer (A0.749400). Petrichor is the scientific name given to the earthy smell of rain coming into contact with the ground. The work starts with the image of the rain just beginning to occur, with finger snaps, leg slaps, and the sound of palms rubbing together simulating the rain fall. The music starts at a slow tempo and increases over the length of the piece as the downpour accelerates. By the end, one might even imagine walking out onto a porch to enjoy watching the rain continue to fall, as it offers up even a moment of peace.From a rehearsal standpoint, Petrichor is not technically demanding. It focuses on the patterns that occur during rainfall, using them to help build towards the exciting conclusion. Working each pattern independently before bringing them together is very helpful, as it will help lock in the mix of rhythms. The opening does not need to feel rushed and should be allowed to breathe, and each increase in the tempo should not be telegraphed, but should flow from the previous tempo. The ending combines straight eighths and sixteenths with a running triplet pattern between them; the triplet pattern should feel like it sits on top of everything else, almost floating along like a cloud.This was a pleasure to compose, and I hope you enjoy rehearsing and performing Petrichor.

'Cowboy Bebop' is a Japanese neo-noir space anime television series which aired from 1998 to 1999. Running for twenty-six episodes, is set in the year 2071, and follows the lives of a travelling bounty-hunting crew aboard a spaceship, the Bebop. The series was accompanied by a number of soundtrack albums composed by Yoko Kanno and Seatbelts, a diverse band formed to create the music with a principal focus on jazz. Cats on Mars (principally recognisable as the background music to many an internet meme) features a cheery melody that some have likened to Debussy's 'Girl with the Flaxen Hair'. A word of warning, this tune will probably stay in your head for a very long time! (Percussion is shown in score and parts provided but all are optional).

This piece was originally written for vocal ensemble (Cantus I, Cantus II, Altus, Tenor I, Tenor II, Basso) and is typical of Praetorius’ flowing counterpoint and mellifluous harmonies. It would be a lovely addition to a wedding or similar ceremony, or for a quiet meditative moment in a religious service or concert program. The notes are easy, making this piece an excellent opportunity to focus on ensemble skills, such as balance and intonation. The work is only about a minute and a half in length. You might want to experiment with repeating the entire work, possibly with the top four voices (Flutes 1 & 2, alto, bass 1) up an octave. Set for flute choir by John Gibson (piccolo, flute 1-2-3, alto, bass, contrabass)The Rob Roy Overture for orchestra was composed in 1831 by Hector Berlioz with Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy as inspiration. Scott's book took a rather romantic view of Rob Roy MacGregor as a Scottish Robin Hood character.  Rob Roy was born in 1671 and became a folk hero and the focus of a number of movies.  Berlioz used rollicking Scottish jig figures and many parts of the piece were later re-worked into his Harold in Italy for viola and orchestra.Berlioz's overture set for flute choir requires sufficient forces of players to carry off his intentions, so I suggest this be played by a large flute choir, preferably with at least 3 on a part for the flute, 2 on alto, and 2 on bass, A single piccolo and contrabass flute would be adequate.  Of course, a smaller group could perform this, but a larger one might be more successful.  The piece is about 9 minutes long.
