Ain't Misbehavin' is arranged for piano in an easy stride style. The left hand remains in a comfortable position (no wide leaps); the right hand takes the melody and fills out harmonies. Ain't Misbehavin' is a jazz standard by Thomas Fats Waller, first recorded in 1929 and inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1984. Usually published with a stride piano accompaniment, this arrangement features part stride as well melodic innovations reminiscent of Art Tatum.  Ain't Misbehavin' is the fourth in a series of arrangements (Vintage Piano Bar Series) by Sandy McIntire. A departure from my usual 2-piano arrangements of classical repertoire, I felt that this irresistible song from 1929 just had to be arranged for ambitious solo pianists who have moments when they want to have some fun. After all, good music is good music, whatever mood you're in!
I started my career playing simple versions of this kind of music by ear, and despite becoming dedicated to the classical musical world, I've never lost my admiration for the musicality and technical assuredness of many ragtime, honky-tonk and jazz pianists of 100 years ago. The best of their music is truly inspiring.
The tempo I have chosen is livelier than 'Fats' Waller's own performance of the song, where he sings to his own piano accompaniment. It's more like the tempo of Louis Armstrong's inimitable version on trumpet.
