I tried to capture the feeling that one gets when in a rocking chair. I love this song but this song is most definitely an earworm. When I completed this composition and played it a few times, it got into my head and heart and would not let go. It followed me for days and every time I hear it, it goes on repeat in my head. As a second theme, it seemed appropriate to invert the melody, since twinhood implies a certain specular symmetry.   Hamacando a las mellizas has the traditional structure of the twelve-bar blues, and a merry, innocent and carefree character.   Hamacando a las mellizas was composed in Bremen (Germany) between June 21 and 23, 2020. There are two popular musical settings of the lyrics, and in the third verse I tried to combine the rhythmic and melodic elements of both. The prelude closes with an air of wonder and reverence as the Child drifts back to sleep while the star shines overhead.

It modulates to E minor in the B section.  It features parallel thirds in the right hand with three note rolled chords at the ends of phrases.  The meter is in common time.  The  right hand melodic rhythm imitates the sound of  maracas.  It is sometimes varied by the use of triplets or ritenuto.  The left hand plays a typical Spanish sounding ostinato bass pattern.  The melody is singable and the flow of the rhythm feels like swaying or rocking.  The four page piece can be played as a  piano or harp solo.  Latin American instruments such as claves, maracas and guiro could be added as a program piece.   It is an early intermediate level.
