Piano - Digital Download SKU: BQ.979-0-50179-711-0 Composed by John Mitchell. This edition: softcover. Bisel New Classics. Score. With Text Language: English / German. Opus 105. 32 pages. Published by Bisel Classics - Digital (BQ.979-0-50179-711-0). ISBN 9790501797110.The Sonata No. 4 Op. 105, composed in 2001, presents itself as another work of the series of sonatas that was created by the Californian composer John Mitchell following programmatic principles. The composition with two contrasting movements tells the story of the star Alcyone, the brightest star of the open star cluster of the Pleiades. In Greek mythology Alcyone is remembered as the leader of her sisters, the nymphs and daughters of Atlas and Pleione, and similarly the Arabic etymology of the name (''queen, who defies the evil storm'') tells a tale of might and sovereignty. Astrologically the constellation is assigned to Taurus. Contrasting and opposing both in mood and metrics, Mitchell gave a musical shape to this mighty stellar energy, with a soaring and joyous first movement followed by a second movement that is slow and even reverent with a subdued ending. Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862554 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 4 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2034471. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862554). A major third and a tritone together create a quintessentially modern-sounding cluster. And so, this unit is used in its unadulterated state throughout. The rhythm is divided into groups of three, deliberately set within a 4/4 time signature, so as to create an effect of hemiola and of syncopation that would not be evident were it set in a triple meter. The clusters play as solid blocks, then divide into two parts, then three. Then the note-values are made twice as small, and the music really takes off ! This is by FAR the most typically modern of all the etudes in the set, as far as rhythmic complexity, percussiveness, and a lack of traditional melody. Running time is just over 2 mins. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862535 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033351. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862535). Etude 3.0, the last of the single-interval material. tritones are rather easier to mirror, and otherwise make symmetrical than other intervals. Thus this piece is 100% mirrored, symmetrical, and topographically identical hand-to-hand. There are many structures which are also inversions, played simultaneously. Diminished 7ths, Dom7 b5 chords, even fifths with the tritone sandwiched in between the two halves of the fifths, are in evidence here. There are rhythmic syncopations and shifting accents. All in all a real showpiece of perpetuum mobile dissonance which makes sense even to the listener or player accustomed to Romantic literature. It's a gallop! Approx running time is 4 mins 20 secs. Two-interval pieces are next in line. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862538 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 8 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2034191. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862538). Here is the first in the sequence of dual-interval selections. The half-step and the whole-step, close cousins, but, Do They Get Along? Sure! The traditional musical element that uses both these intervals is the octotonic or diminished scale. So, this material figures prominently in the first section, accompanied by alternating major and minor sevenths. The piece uses mirrored and symmetrical passages in 7ths next, followed by the opposite smaller intervals. Rolled mirrored clusters, symmetrical open chords, every possibility is explored here, each aspect showing its own identity. The intervallic unity gives the piece, and ALL the pieces in this series, a continuity that binds the disparate pianistic applications together into unified and identifiable musics. Running time is approx. 3 mins 30 secs. at suggested tempo. Any piece in this series can go slower, if the player needs the time, or faster, if the player feels like gunning it! MBB.

Piano - Digital Download SKU: BQ.979-0-50179-209-2 Composed by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Edited by Slavy Dimoff. This edition: softcover. Bisel Classics. Score. With Text Language: English / German. Opus 39. 58 pages. Published by Bisel Classics - Digital (BQ.979-0-50179-209-2). ISBN 9790501792092.In 1811 with his Op. 39 Hummel composed another series of dances that he dedicated to the Apollosaal, the most fascinating amusement hall of Old Vienna, and a popular venue for the enlightened nobility just as for the emerging bourgeoisie. This series of dances surprises with several special effects. Hummel included a quote from the popular ballad opera The Swiss Family one vocal part and a large scale Coda envisioning the eruption of Vesuvius. These enjoyable musical miniatures offer an interesting glimpse into the creation history of the classical waltz and the world famous Viennese dance culture. They retain their charm as dance music to the present day.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862533 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033289. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862533). Etude 2.0 uses the major third as its component interval. Major 7th and augmented arpeggios predominate. Some are slow and graceful, others fast and turbulent, changing octaves with each iteration. Still others are pointillistically distributed between the hands. Octaves with major thirds attached to the outer ranges take mirrored, topographically identical structures, and explore the lowest and highest registers at the conclusion. Approx. running time is 3 mins 30 secs. More etudes to follow, til the set of 25 is complete. Once the single interval pieces have been posted, the combination pieces begin. All the possible groups of two have been utilized. Then the groups of three, and finally, the final etude uses all the intervallic elements in turn in one piece. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862531 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2033247. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862531). Here is the second etude of the set of 25. It uses the interval of the second, or whole-step, hence the designation 1.0. Mirroring and contrary motion abound here, as secondal structures, in chords, clusters, and single-note lies are all shaped and fingered the same for both hands. Smartly percussive in its sound. Only one short whole-tone-sounding segment. It is surprising how many types of symmetrical, pianistic gestures can be combined using this topographical i.e. black/white keys approach, and strictly limited intervallic material. Approx. running time is 2 mins 25 secs. Look for the rest of the set, and the complete set in one volume coming soon. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933947 Composed by Jasmine LAI. Concert,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Jasmine LAI #6565277. Published by Jasmine LAI (A0.933947). This is my first time I have written a piece that doesnot have a standard structure. It is also the first time that I have expressed my feelings about Australia through music, inspired by Lawson’s moving poem. The reason why I name my piece ‘Consciousness2.0’ is because it depicts a picture of how people rise and fall in life. An example of this is what happened during the Australian bushfires, which was a time when people were very aware of what was happening.  Consciousness means to be aware and responsive to the surroundings, and it can also mean a person’s perspective of events.  My piece begins with a soft introduction, which describes the life of Australia and its unique environment. From the bustling cities to the open country, there is always some life around Australia. Sometimes there is also some wild weather, which is represented in the arpeggiated left hand (bars 10-14). The story then shifts its focus to the animals, through short 2-part phrase in bars 23-26. The animals areenjoying their time in nature. The phrase is in Aeolian mode, so there is a bit of mystery instead of having an obvious key. Then, the parallel fifths depict the openness and vastness of the land. The transition is shown in bars 32-34 by a smooth 4-part phrase going downwards. The next fast section (bars 35-47) describes the rise of panic, just like a howling heat of the bushfire. The chromatic 7th chords (bars 36,38) make a sense of tension, and after 3 times, the chromaticism makes its way to a recent memory of the rushing semiquavers (bars 43-44) After the bushfires came closer, animals panicked as they rushed and left their precious homes. It was devastating to see how many people were affected, with houses destroyed, people and animals burning into the ashes (bars 48-54).  Then there is another new section (bars 55-68) which describes the uncertainty, for example, the right-handquavers describe a flashback of nature planning itself to create a bushfire, or the times when people were planning a solution to this incident. The uncertainty was unfolded when the fast right hand semiquavers come back, (bars 69-82) creating a whoosh of destruction disappointment and adjustment.  The last part is the ending of story (bars 84 to end). Though the fire has made a lot of destruction, with Aussie spirit, there is always hope that everyone can rebuild a new and better community in the future

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862546 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 4 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2034379. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862546). The figure of a whole-step and a minor third was the favorite tone-row motif for Anton Webern, a cell such as C-D-Eb, for instance. This piece does NOT have a serial sound, but uses this same configuration of tones, in its close form as the melody, and an with an open, inverted form as the accompaniment. Eventually both hands play both figures. The finale uses the same single tone anchoring device from the opening accompaniment, but in a majestic block chord sequence. The aim of this entire series has been to create as many varied kinds of music with as little variation in the musical materials as possible, all the while giving the pianist some specific technical and artistic demands to meet. Approx running time is 3 mins 30 secs. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862543 Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2034361. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862543). This piece is a cascading Minimalist waterfall of 4ths and half-steps. The half-step can be either inside or outside the 4th, and both are used, singly and mix-and-match fashion, as single notes and as chords. The fingerings are SUPER-simple. 4 2 1 or 4 3 1, usually together, but mixed as well. There are mirrored chords throughout as well. The composition uses black keys in bunches, or white keys all on their own. Keyboard topography is a large determining factor in ALL these Etudes, as the object was to create both musical moods and technical challenges, using as much hand-to-hand topographical mirroring as could be found, within a given interval or interval set. This piece has a rolling movement throughout, and even the dissonances sparkle! Approx. running time is 3 mins. Pedaling is marked throughout. MBB.

Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862552). Nothing here but us minor thirds and tritones. No variations, no displacements, no wild rhythms, just lay'em out. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I hope!, at what simple charm this piece exudes. Eventually, the tritones disappear as dissonances, when they are paired with the 3rds that constantly resolve each one, one right after another. hand crossing throughout. Mirroring is at a minimum here, since the hands are constantly working together. Running time is approx. 1 min 45 secs. MBB.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1016772 Composed by Scott Munson. Contemporary. Score. 6 pages. AmeriKlectic Music #6352759. Published by AmeriKlectic Music (A0.1016772). A short, fast paced, lively and modern (but not to modern!) gigue for solo piano (duration 2:00).This gigue for solo piano is based on a single hexachord, given at a number of transpositions and often stacked vertically.Inspired by the book Hexachords – a resource for composers by Sonny Kompanek, Mr. Munson's piano piece, #4 in a series, is based on the hexachord 22122.As stated in the Mr. Kompanek's book Each digit represents the number of half steps from the lowest to highest note of the hexachord, reading from left to right. So, at transposition 0, 22122 would represent c,d,e,f,g,a. There are 80 primary hexachords in the 12 tone scale.Yet displacement of notes, stacking of transpositions and other techniques provide a wealth of material. Mr. Munson elaborates: I take many liberties as the piece progresses and develops, where the primary principal that takes over at a point is motivic development – carved out from the principal hexachord. Tonal structures as well are often derived from selecting certain notes from stacked hexachords.
