Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1260428 By Les Baxter. By Jack Lawrence, Marguerite Monnot, and Rene Gustave Rouzaud. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Multicultural,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards,World. Score. 4 pages. Timothy Stapay #853593. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1260428). The Poor People Of Paris is arranged as played by piano artist, Liberace.  It was often used by Liberace as part of medley of songs about Paris; and in concerts around the world.   The Poor People of Paris is a US pop song that became a number-one instrumental hit in 1956. It is based on the French language song La goualante du pauvre Jean (The Ballad of Poor John), with music by Marguerite Monnot and words by René Rouzaud.  Edith Piaf had one of her biggest hits with the original French version; and she sang it on the Ed Sullivan Show. The song was adapted in 1954 by American songwriter Jack Lawrence, who wrote English lyrics that are considerably different from the original French ones. The English language title arises in part from a misinterpretation of the French title, as pauvre Jean was taken for the same-sounding pauvres gens, which translates as poor people..Lawrence's lyrics, which pronounce Paris as PaREE in the French style, are seldom heard, as most of the popular recordings of the song in the English-speaking world have been instrumentals.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1290220 By Les Baxter. By Jack Lawrence, Marguerite Monnot, and Rene Gustave Rouzaud. Arranged by Martyn Clive Johnson (aka Martycli Piano Guy). 20th Century,Barbershop,Comedy,Jazz,Ragtime. Score. 7 pages. Martyn Johnson #880927. Published by Martyn Johnson (A0.1290220). This is my piano version of the tune Poor People of Paris (La Goualante Du Pauvre Jean). It is a feel good stride piano version in the spirit of the pianist Winnifred Attwell. I was also in mind of the iconic version done by Edith Piaf also. It contains a little interlude in the style of JS Bach that I hope will amuse. The left hand can be tricky at speed but single notes can be played instead of octaves and tenths and the chords can be simplified without losing the overall style.I haven't included dynamic markings and fingerings, leaving this choice to the individual pianist. Likewise with the use of sustain pedal. Seldom can you get two pianists to agree on these things! Please note this is a solo piano version and does not contain notation of the other instruments on my YouTube video. It was however written for solo piano and sounds just as good with or without other instruments.
