Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1275181 Composed by James Horner. Arranged by David McCaulley. 20th Century,Contemporary,Film/TV. Score. 14 pages. David McCaulley #867129. Published by David McCaulley (A0.1275181). This advanced piano arrangement presents James Horner's cue from Apollo 13 entitled The Launch. As the film depicts the boarding and takeoff of the Apollo 13 space rocket, Horner's music beautifully tracks along with the scene, going from a patriotic chorale, to sweeping orchestral themes, to rising buildups, to tense action-like themes, then back to a floaty, atmospheric texture. Horner's music here is a testament to his incredible ability to write music perfectly for the drama, and this advanced piano arrangement aims to capture some of that Horner magic. In it you'll find plenty of areas with intricate fingerings, octave leaps, and careful pedaling that are sure to encourage thorough practice.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1287075 By Acker Bilk. By Acker Bilk and Robert Mellin. Arranged by John Fries. 20th Century,Country,Pop,Standards. Score. 2 pages. John Fries #878082. Published by John Fries (A0.1287075). Please contact me by email at jfries@ptd.net to make a special request or to find out all that I have to offer and to express your comments or concerns. Thanks, John.  Stranger on the Shore is a piece for clarinet written by Acker Bilk for his young daughter and originally named Jenny after her. The tune was written on a single scrap of paper by Bilk and handed over to Leon Young (1916-1991) who crafted the string arrangement, including the characteristic harmonic shifts at the very end. In May 1969, the crew of Apollo 10 took Stranger on the Shore on their mission to the moon. Gene Cernan, a member of the crew, included the tune on a cassette tape used in the command module of the Apollo spacecraft. On 26 May 1962, Stranger on the Shore became the first British recording to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.507392 Composed by Heather Cattanach. 20th Century,Children,Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 5 pages. Published by Heather Cattanach (A0.507392). Hydra is the biggest of the 88 Constellations. Ptolemy, the Greek astronomer catalogued this constellation in the second century. Two Greek legends mention Hydra. The first tells how Heracles (Hercules) fought and killed the nine-headed monstrous predatory snake. The second relates the story of Corvus (the crow) who was commanded to bring water to Apollo, but was distracted, and blamed the water snake for his being late in returning to Apollo with the cup (Crater). In honour of Hydra’s extensive span across the sky, all 88 keys are used. Thus much of the material is chromatic (and also palindromic) but in bars 9, 19 and 29, you can see the approximate shape of the constellation if you join the dots of the noteheads. I have chosen to eschew the use of 8va and 8vb signs, instead opting to show the expanse of all the notes on the keyboard as they appear on the staff. It is easy to play these high and low leger line notes, knowing that they always begin (or end) at the top or bottom of the piano keyboard (i.e. the highest C and the lowest A). From “88 Constellations†a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano). Intermediate Piano Solo. Performance Time 1 1/2 minutes. 4 pages. (General Instructional, Modern, 21st Century, Repertoire, Recital).
