The Bird Song is a piano solo arrangement of the 1899 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  This is mostly a new composition inspired by the Jacobs-Bond piece.  I took the tune's 8-bar vocal melody and changed several of the notes then put it in the Left Hand.  In the Right Hand I created twittering birds.  The ending section elongates the final cadence into a dozen measures of twittering and posturing, followed by a Coda in a new Time Signature of rest and twittered farewells.  This makes a simple, delightful, lilting dance.

Cupid's Home is a piano solo arrangement of the 1898 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. I have freely arranged this into a pulsing light jazz piece with an Intro, three sections, and a Coda; which each build in volume and rhythmic intensity. The Intro is straight from the Jacobs-Bond piece; it is the only part of the song that is. For section 1 I rhythmically augment (double the note values) of the melody and add a pulsing drone beat in the LH. In section 2 I double time the melody and syncopate it, then reharmonize it, and add harmonic movement to the still pulsing bass line. Section 3 adds syncopation and stride to the LH. The Coda is an extended riff and cadence. A Study in Symbols is a piano solo arrangement of the 1901 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  I have turned this piece into a Charleston dance, inspired by the original Charleston song which created this genre.  I have taken the Jacobs-Bond simple 8 bar chromatic theme, altered the rhythm, and embedded it into the chords of my own opening chorus theme.   Everything else I totally made up to create my Charleston in true 1920's style.  This includes a new contrasting B theme in the relative minor key for the verse.  The song is in ABA format with a repeat.  Full of energy and history, and great fun to play, this piece works for dance, pleasure, or a showstopping concert encore.

In The Meadow is a piano solo arrangement of the 1925 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  This arrangement only uses one bar of the Jacobs-Bond song then goes on a jazz riff, then quotes a second bar of the original song, then goes off on another riff.  The same two bars get sporadically reused twice more in the piece to bridge into yet more riffs.  A fun jazz piece that is both lilting and passionate while it constantly shifts moods.

When Do I Want You Most is a piano solo arrangement of the 1897 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. The descending pattern in the first bar of the melody reminded me of the opening of a famous Bach minuet, so I turned this pop ballad into a minuet. I reharmonized the melody more in the style of Bach, and wrote an extended intro, bridges, and Coda to tie the melody quotes together. Just A-Wearyin' For You is a piano solo arrangement of the 1901 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. This 12 bar melody was once the most famous tune in the world.  I have kept that tune intact but set it to a flowing accompaniment that is part Classical and part New Age.  Because the melody was so short I created an extended bridge between the verses.  I didn't want anything to compete with that beautiful first section, so I created a solo Left Hand countermelody for the bridge.  An expressive piece of sheer beauty from beginning to end.

When God Puts Out The Light is a piano solo arrangement of the 1901 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond. The original piece was a ballad setting, for voice and piano, of the composers own sacred lyrics. I begin much as the composer did with full ballad chords which were the style at the turn of the century; then I create a contrasting middle section which is more lyrical with a single note melody and a flowing broken chord accompaniment; then conclude with a section of richer chords with hints of early jazz harmony. A Song of the Hills is a piano solo arrangement of the 1915 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  I have taken fragments of this melody and set it in 2 part writing.  The first section is Baroque in style and ornamented with mordents and has a broken triad accompaniment.  The second section is Classical in style with legato lines and extended broken chords.  These two sections repeat.  Then the final section has an abridged variation of the Baroque theme, then climaxes with trills and flourishes in the Classical style.  This piece maintains a happy feeling throughout and will put a smile on your face.
