A Study in Symbols is a piano solo arrangement of the 1901 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  I have turned this piece into a Charleston dance, inspired by the original Charleston song which created this genre.  I have taken the Jacobs-Bond simple 8 bar chromatic theme, altered the rhythm, and embedded it into the chords of my own opening chorus theme.   Everything else I totally made up to create my Charleston in true 1920's style.  This includes a new contrasting B theme in the relative minor key for the verse.  The song is in ABA format with a repeat.  Full of energy and history, and great fun to play, this piece works for dance, pleasure, or a showstopping concert encore.

Morning On The Charles is a sketch from my memory of mornings by the Charles River in Boston, MA. The sun reflected off the still water, gently broken by sailboats and rowing teamsgusts of wind on my face. Quiet movement. Everything is connected.
