Pinterest updates Charles Wesley (1707-1788) was the younger brother of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church. He was a prolific hymn writer who wrote over 6500 hymns, many of which are still regularly sung today. This collection features 6 of those hymns, using the tunes that are most associated with Wesley’s words.

Included are “And Can It Be that I Should Gain,†“‘O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing,†“Love Divine, All Loves Excelling,†“I Want a Principle Within,†“Praise the Lord Who Reigns Above,†and “Jesus, Lover of My Soul†(using both Martyn and Aberystwyth).

♫ Charles Wesley started his poem with ‘Listen to the angels !’ This started me wondering, what did the angels’ voices sound like ? 
♫ Prosody is study of the intonation, stress, and rhythm of the speech of a language (contrasted with the sounds of the vowels and consonants.) Could I replicate the angel’s basic speech patterns? My study of Greek in seminary has given me a pretty good idea of how to pronounce the consonants and vowels of the Greek language. But I would want to listen to someone who actually speaks Greek as their mother tongue to have an idea of the prosody. After further study, I have rewritten the angels’ music; this update represents my latest understanding.
♫ Although Latin was the language of the Roman conquerors, Greek was the lingua franca of the Mediterranean world of the first century. Some scholars want us to believe that most of the Jews were not erudite enough to speak Greek. 
♫ Yet those of us who have travelled to countries like Haiti, are not surprised that many people there speak Kreyòl, French, English and Spanish!
♫ I began searching for someone who actually spoke Greek conversationally to pronounce Luke 2 :14 in Greek. After I found a reliable source, I reduced the rhythm and the accented sylables to simpified music notation. I pulled from my knowledge of ancient modes and used my imagination to add pitches and repetitions of phrases. The melodic and harmonic result is completely inventive, but I believe the basic rhythm of the speech is fairly accurate.

Otro himno muy clásico para Navidad es Oid un son en alta esfera, compuesto originalmente por Charles Wesley en 1739 con una música más solemne y muy diferente, fue modificado posteriormente por su colega George Whitefield y en 1840 por Felix Mendelsohn Bartholdy, quien para conmemorar el aniversario de la invención de la imprenta de Gutemberg, creo una cantata donde incorpora el texto de Wesley-Whitefield pero con la música que conocemos hoy día. Este arreglo es en forma de un Allegro de Sonata, completamente en un estilo Clásico y por lo mismo muy ligero e ideal para ofertorio dentro del orden del servicio o para una pieza de recital. Duración aprox. 4:00
Another really classic Christmas hymn is Hark! The Heralds Angels Sing, composed originally by Charles Wesley in 1739 with a very different music, it was later modify by his colleague George Whitefield and in 1840 by Felix Mendelsohn who made a Cantata with the Weasley-Whitefield text but with the music known still this days. This arrangement is an Allegro de Sonata, completely  in a classic style therefore really light and ideal for an Offertory in a service or as a recital piece. Aprox. duration: 4:00.
