The temptation may be to take this piece too quickly, but remind the student to play it at a tempo they can keep up with. 

The rests and staccatos are very important in this arrangement. Be sure the student has complete silence and doesn’t hold notes over the rests and has a nice, sharp staccato.

If the student struggles with the syncopation in measures 35-38, I have found it beneficial to draw straight lines between the staves to show where the RH and LH interplay.

His Eye Is on the Sparrow, a beautiful, classic Gospel song, for advanced intermediate piano solo. Written in 1905 by Charles Gabriel and Civilla D, Martin, this song was sung by Ethel Waters and used in her biography. Whitney Houston made this song popular again in the 1976 movie Sparkle, in which the plot was inspired by the history of The Supremes singing trio, in the late 1950's-early 60's in Harlam, New York. Use lots of expression in the first verse and ending; more motion in the 2nd verse and chorus. Key of F Major, helpful fingering suggested. This exciting arrangement of the well-known Easter hymn Orientis Partibus is in five parts.

The first movement could be heard as either modern or in the Baroque style, depending on how you play it. In fact, each movement of this partita can be played separately, making it perfect to cover any part of your Easter liturges that need music.

The second movement is a classic Baroque chorale prelude in the style of Walther or Pachelbel.

The third and fourth movements are dance-like, and take an interesting detour into minor to add variety.

The final movement of this piece puts the melody into the tenor, with an obbligato in the soprano range. The partita is very versatile and can be used for Easter Sunday or indeed any Sundays in the great fifty days!

This book is a recording of the printed piano accompaniment book in this series. Besides accompanying solo or duet instruments, these recordings may also be used for group singing. There is a short introduction, and enough repeats of the verses in case you would like to play or sing them all! While these recordings contain multiple verses, the print version (also available on Sheet Music Plus) contains only one verse with no introduction. All hymns are in a good vocal range except Christ the Lord is Risen Today which is in F to accommodate a more accessible playing range. The only hymn not
included in this recording (that occurs in the print book) is Great is Thy Faithfulness, since I only have print publication rights to this piece.

This is one large file, containing all 34 accompaniments. For this  reason, I have notated the cue point, i.e. the time in the recording when each hymn occurs so they can be located more easily within this one-hour and 10-minute recording. This arrangement is peppy, but also haunting and soft in the minor parts that build dynamically and chordally to He Is Risen! I end with a triumphant portion of He Lives, ending with the Easter Song again.

This is a powerful, dramatic, fun, interesting arrangement for advanced piano soloists that is just right for Easter Sunday offertory, special solo, prelude, or postlude. Time signatures used are 4/4, 3/4 in 3, 3/4 in 1, and 2/4, with several tempo changes, arpeggions, two octave gliss into Joy To The World.
