Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1398436 By Bobby Darin. By Albert Lasry, Charles Trenet, and Jack Lawrence. Arranged by Tobi A Crawford. Contemporary,Jazz. Score (Chords/Lyrics). 7 pages. Tobi Crawford #981711. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1398436). This arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea” over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,” and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.” It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables” and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson and Sara Gazarek improvise on ballads for inspiration.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1403603 Composed by Bedrich Smetana. Arranged by Zellev. 19th Century,Classical,Historic,Multicultural,World. Score. 3 pages. Zellev Music #986782. Published by Zellev Music (A0.1403603). Key Signature: A MinorTime Signature: 2/4Tempo: ModeratoDifficulty: IntermediateBedřich Smetana (2 March 1824 – 12 May 1884) was a Czech composer who pioneered the development of a musical style that became closely identified with his people's aspirations to a cultural and political revival. He has been regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music. Internationally he is best known for his 1866 opera The Bartered Bride and for the symphonic cycle Má vlast (My Fatherland), which portrays the history, legends and landscape of the composer's native Bohemia. It contains the famous symphonic poem Vltava, also popularly known by its German name Die Moldau (in English, The Moldau). All but a handful of Smetana's compositions before his departure for Gothenburg are piano works. Some of these early pieces have been dismissed by music historian Harold Schonberg as bombastic virtuoso rhetoric derived from Liszt. Under Proksch, however, Smetana acquired more polish, as revealed in works such as the G minor Sonata of 1846 and the E-flat Polka of the same year. The set of Six Characteristic Pieces of 1848 was dedicated to Liszt, who described it as the most outstanding, finely felt and finely finished pieces that have recently come to my note. In this period Smetana planned a cycle of so-called album leaves, short pieces in every major and minor key, after the manner of Chopin's Preludes. The project became somewhat disorganised; in the pieces completed, some keys are repeated while others are unrepresented. After Smetana's final return from Gothenburg, when he committed himself primarily to the development of Czech opera, he wrote nothing for the piano for 13 years.[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed%C5%99ich_Smetana].

Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.1069959 Composed by Steven H. Boothe. Arranged by Ashley Ivers. Pop,Rock. Accompaniment. Duration 184. Boothe Publishing #4633665. Published by Boothe Publishing (A0.1069959). Most of the mistakes I made in life were between the ages of 12-16 years. Somehow I felt that I was smarter than I was. I thought that my friends were smarter than they were. I felt invincible. I made many foolish mistakes during those years. About that time, my family was preparing to move from Oregon to Utah. I remember my mother talking with me and saying that I could start over again. We would be in a new place with new people. No one would know me. I could be the person I truly wanted to be. I thought about this a lot, and when we finally made the move I had decided what kind of person I really wanted to be. In fact, I felt bad for being the wrong kind of person and hurting other people physically and spiritually. I eventually felt so bad about my mistakes that I decided that I would write or call the people I had hurt and apologize to them. Over the period of a year I was able to find, call and apologize to each of them. To my great surprise none of them were still angry with me. I was forgiven. That was a great feeling. This day will be forever what you choose. Once you leave this life you won't be able to return and right any wrongs that you have committed. So when you make a mistake, choose to make it right today so that this day, this day of good choosing will be what will last forever. Never let yourself do something that you know inside is wrong. If your friends are trying to talk you into doing something you know is wrong, don't just sit there and listen to them. Get up and leave the room, or the party, or the situation. Be true. Be the one. Be the son or daughter of God. Do what He would do.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1421881 Composed by Sayat-Nova (1712-1795). Arranged by Constance Shelengian. Multicultural,World. Score. 3 pages. Constance Shelengian #1003216. Published by Constance Shelengian (A0.1421881). Based on an Armenian Song by Sayat-Nova.Inch Gonim Hekimen is an Armenian song composed by the gifted 18th century poet and musician Harutyun Sayatyan, known as Sayat-Nova (1712-1795). He was a court musician in the ancient kingdom of Georgia and later became a traveling troubadour (ashugh or kousan), singing and playing the 3-stringed kamancha. In this setting, the energetic beginning should be played freely. In Middle Eastern music, a taqsim, or taksim, is a solo improvised introduction often with a background instrument playing a repeated low tone or drone. Here, a drone in the L.H. establishes the key of E minor with octave tremolo. The piano accompaniment settles into a 6/8 rhythm.Constance Shelengian is a music educator, composer, choral conductor, arranger, and performer. She has played guitar/keyboard in Armenian folk ensembles and organ in Armenian churches in New York and Pennsylvania. She is committed to preserving the rich Armenian folk music tradition by arranging and transcribing Armenian songs for piano.
