Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.966505 Composed by Stuart Sosnoski. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 3 pages. Stuart Sosnoski #2881239. Published by Stuart Sosnoski (A0.966505). It’s Phrygian Out There uses the sound of the E Phrygian scale to suggest a snowstorm.  Uncommon in the early intermediate levels, the Phrygian scale helps students envision a snowstorm and to control the piece accordingly.  Feathered beaming in measure two is also a technique not commonly found in early intermediate piano solos however, my students are very capable of understanding and performing them, foreshadowing, and teaching, higher level techniques.  In the B section, the melody on the right hand is double voiced.  Once again, a technique not commonly found on this level but one easily understood and performed by my students.  It’s Phrygian Out There is well liked in my studio and I am sure your students will enjoy it fully.

Standard fingering for chromatic scales has been used for the turns. Eighth notes (quavers) should be lightly swung.Jingle Bell BoogieA lively, fun to play Grade 4 boogie arrangement of this popular Christmas carol. Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1328143 By Steve Stanfill. By William B. Bradbury. Arranged by Steve Stanfill. Chamber,Christian,Praise & Worship,Traditional. Score. 2 pages. Steve Stanfill #916118. Published by Steve Stanfill (A0.1328143). This is an arrangement of the  19th centruy hymn Sweet Hour of Prayer, attributed to William B. Bradbury.  It is suitable for prelude, postlude, or performance in Church services, combining the hymn tune with motifs from Giacomo Meyerbeer's hymn commonly set as Jesus Once of Humble Birth.  Both of these hymns have common usage in Christian congregations today, and will be particularly familiar to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.Performance Practice:  This hymn should not be rushed but shouldn't drag either.  Markings are not included for damper pedal under the assumption that it's use should be rather intuitive given the harmonic rythum of the piece.  Occasional non-harmonic notes (mostly augmented 9ths)  in chords are intentional and should be present but not prominent--there to provide tension and color only.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1208769 Composed by Jonathan Williams. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Jonathan Williams #806871. Published by Jonathan Williams (A0.1208769). Vagabond Jonathan Williams (b. 1991)As the title suggests, Vagabond lacks a tonal center, or key (i.e. C major). Some refer to all such music as “atonal,†yet sections of this piece include a variety of chords and chord progressions that hint towards traditional tonality. For example, the first three rolled chords could be labeled B diminished, A major seventh, and F dominant ninth, respectively. Regardless of their possible names, these are chords commonly heard in tonal music, especially classical and jazz works. While the piece weaves through hinted key areas, the melody wanders as well. The first two measures of the unaccompanied, opening theme include all twelve pitch classes (A, A♯, B, …, G, G♯) exactly once. This is called a “row,†and it is essential to twelve-tone music as first created by Arnold Schönberg (1874 - 1951). The remainder of Vagabond exclusively includes manipulations of the opening row. Various renderings of the row are audibly similar, while the majority obscure their resemblance by splitting the row across the hands, combining adjacent notes into chords, or modifying the rhythm. After a final reprise of the opening, Vagabond commences with a series of fading chords and a last chord that may sound like a dominant seventh chord in its least common inversion. In this context, the sound and feel of a dominant seventh chord is lost. While this quality is frequently used as a penultimate chord to instill intensity before an anticipated finale, in Vagabond it serves to let the listener imagine an endless wandering.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.894344 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Theoria Music. 20th Century,Folk,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Theoria Music Publishing #3624287. Published by Theoria Music Publishing (A0.894344). The Entertainer is sub-titled A Rag Time Two Step, which was a form of dance popular until about 1911, and a style which was common among rags written at the time. The piece is a 1902 classic piano rag written by Scott Joplin and it was sold first as sheet music, and in the 1910s as piano rolls that would play on player pianos. The first recording was by blues and ragtime musicians, the Blue Boys in 1928, played on mandolin and guitar. Its structure is: Intro–AA–BB–A–CC–Intro2–DD.It is primarily set in the key of C major; however, for the C section (commonly referred to as the 'Trio'), it modulates to the subdominant, F major, then through a transitional passage modulates back to C major for the D section. The B section contains an indication that the melody is to be played an octave higher on the repeat. In the June 7, 1903, St. Louis Globe-Democrat, contemporary composer Monroe H. Rosenfeld described The Entertainer as the best and most euphonious of Joplin's compositions to that point. It is a jingling work of a very original character, embracing various strains of a retentive character which set the foot in spontaneous action and leave an indelible imprint on the tympanum.Suggested by the rag's dedication to James Brown and his Mandolin Club, author Rudi Blesh wrote that some of the melodies recall the pluckings and the fast tremolos of the little steel-stringed plectrum instruments. Stark issued an arrangement of the piece for two mandolins and a guitar.Wikipedia contributors, The Entertainer (rag), Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Entertainer_(rag)&oldid=916644407 (accessed September 29, 2019)Title: The EntertainerComposer: Scott JoplinYear: 1902Format: PDFSize: 8.5x11Publisher: Theoria Music PublishingWebsite: https://sheetmusicmarket.com

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.790152 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Diamond S Music. Classical,Concert. Score. 14 pages. Diamond S Music #4269079. Published by Diamond S Music (A0.790152). Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 - 1st Movement, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. It has remained one of his most celebrated compositions. Although commonly thought to be one of the few works to be named by the composer himself, it was actually named Grande sonate pathétique (to Beethoven's liking) by the publisher, who was impressed by the sonata's tragic sonorities. Prominent musicologists debate whether or not the Pathétique may have been inspired by Mozart's piano sonata K. 457, since both compositions are in C minor and have three very similar movements. The second movement, Adagio cantabile, especially, makes use of a theme remarkably similar to that of the spacious second movement of Mozart's sonata. However, Beethoven's sonata uses a unique motif line throughout, a major difference from Haydn or Mozart’s creation.
