Composed by David Perkins. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Wedding. Score. 6 pages. David Perkins #5715405. Published by David Perkins (A0.905625).

Originally a setting of a poem by John Betjemen, this piece arranged for piano solo, has become a wordless song in its own right. The somewhat cryptic title is a line taken from the original poem. This and seven other pieces forms a suite of pieces entitled As Wordless as the Windy Sky:

1   Can Those Boats Be Only Rooftops?
2   The Sandy Path That Leads Me Down
3   A Kingdom of its Own
4   As Wordless as the Windy Sky
5   Let Me Count the Ways
6   That Quite Unprecedented Three
7   Screened From the Public Gaze
8   When the Long Trick's Over

Together they create a broadly biographical sequence from the imagination of childhood, through holidays, religion, love, the pleasures of the middle years to the inevitability of old age. The whole suite of music is available on SMP in one book As Wordless as the Windy Sky (Book) or as separate pieces.

By Skeeter Davis. By Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop,Rock,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Timothy Stapay #799031. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1200229).

An arrangement of The End Of The World,  a song covered by many famous artists. includingThe Carpenters; thanks to the phenomenal singing of Karen Carpenter.  The End of the World was written by composer Arthur Kent and lyricist Sylvia Dee, who often worked as a team.

The Carpenters (officially known as Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials.

Karen possessed a powerful singing voice, and close miking brought out many nuances in her performances.  Richard arranged their music to take advantage of this, though Karen had a three-octave vocal range.  Richard's work with Karen was influenced by the music of Les Paul, whose overdubbing of the voice of wife and musical partner Mary Ford allowed her to be used as both the lead and harmony vocals.[6] By multi-tracking, Richard was able to use Karen and himself for the harmonies to back Karen's lead. The overdubbed background harmonies were distinctive to the Carpenters, but it was the soulful, engaging sound of Karen's lead voice that made them so recognizable.  Record executive Mike Curb said it was Karen's voice that took the Carpenters above straight pop music into pop rock.   She was known as a one take wonder and could deliver a strong performance on the first attempt.

Richard Carpenter was the creative force behind the Carpenters' sound. An accomplished keyboard player, composer and arranger, music critic Daniel Levitin called him one of the most gifted arrangers to emerge in popular music.  The duo's smooth harmonies were not in step with contemporary music, which was dominated by heavy rock.  Instead, the Carpenters strove for a rich and melodic sound, along the same vein as the Beach Boys and the Mamas & the Papas, but with greater fullness and orchestration including frequent use of small string and horn sections and introspective lyrics centred around relationships.  Richard also admired the musicianship and arranging skills of Frank Zappa, and the two briefly met backstage at the Billboard Forum in 1975.

End Of The World: Lyrics:

Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
'Cause you don't love me any more

Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when I lost your love

[Bridge]
I wake up in the morning and I wonder
Why everything's the same as it was
I can't understand, no, I can't understand
How life goes on the way it does

Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you said goodbye

Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you

By Elvis Presley. By Carl Sigman, Francois Becaud, and Pierre Delano. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Film/TV,Jazz,Latin,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 10 pages. Timothy Stapay #830811. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1235275).

This arrangement of What Now My Love is written as performed by legendary pianist, Liberace.  It's in a moderate Bolero rhythmic style.

What Now, My Love? is the English title of a popular song whose original French version, Et maintenant (English: And Now) was written in 1961 by composer Gilbert Bécaud and lyricist Pierre Delanoë. The recurring musical pattern in the background is the Boléro by Ravel. English lyrics and the title were written by Carl Sigma.

Lyrics:

What now my love, now that you've left me
How can I live through another day
Watching my dreams turn to ashes
And my hopes turn to bits of clay

Once I could see, once I could feel
Now I am numb, I've become unreal
I walk the night, without a goal
Stripped of my heart and my soul

What now my love, now that it's over
I feel the world falling all around me
Here come the stars, tumbling around me
There's the sky, where that sea should be

What now my love, now that you're gone
I'd be a fool to go on and on
No one would care, no one would cry
If I should live if I should live or die

What now my love, now there is nothing
Only my last, my last good-bye

Władziu Valentino Liberace(May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor.  A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, he enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!

A piano solo arrangement of Yesterday Once More;  made famous by The Carpenters.

Yesterday Once More, written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis, is a hit song by the Carpenters from their 1973 album Now & Then. Thematically the song concerns reminiscing about songs of a generation gone by. It segues into a long medley, consisting of eight covers of 1960s tunes incorporated into a faux oldies radio program. The work takes up the entire B-side of the album.

The single version of the song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, kept from the number 1 spot by Bad, Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce.  It was the duo's fifth number two hit and makes them the act with the second-most number two hits on the chart behind Madonna. The song also peaked at number 1 on the easy listening chart, becoming their eighth number 1 on that chart in four years.   It is the Carpenters' biggest-selling record worldwide and their best-selling single in the UK, peaking at number 2 Richard Carpenter stated, on a Japanese documentary, that it was his favorite of all the songs that he had written. He has performed an instrumental version at concerts.

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
When I was young, I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs
When they played, I'd sing along
It made me smile

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again
Just like a long-lost friend
All the songs I loved so well

[Chorus 1]
Every sha-la-la-la
Every whoa, whoa-oh still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're starting to sing so fine
When they get to the part
Where he's breaking her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before, it's yesterday once more
(Shoobie-doo, lang, lang)
(Shoobie-doo, lang, lang)

[Verse 2]
Lookin' back on how it was in years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed

[Pre-Chorus 2]
It was songs of love
That I would sing to them
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away

[Chorus 2]
Every sha-la-la-la
Every whoa, whoa-oh still shines
(Only oldies, but goodies)
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're starting to sing so fine
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry
Just like before, it's yesterday once more
(Shoobie-doo, lang, lang)

[Outro]
Every sha-la-la-la
Every whoa, whoa-oh still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're starting to sing so fine
Every sha-la-la-la
Every whoa, whoa-oh still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're starting to sing so fine...

By Louis Armstrong. By Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Timothy Stapay #1018085. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1438013).

When it comes to timeless classics, few songs can compare to “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong’s Orchestra and Chorus. Released in 1967, this beautiful melody has transcended decades, touching the hearts of millions across the globe.

After it was heard in the film Good Morning, Vietnam, it was reissued as a single in 1988, and rose to number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.   Armstrong's recording was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

In a world often plagued by strife and uncertainty, the song serves as a gentle reminder to focus on the positive aspects of life. It urges us to look beyond our differences and embrace the beauty that surrounds us. It celebrates the wonders of nature, the innocence of children, and the power of love, instilling a renewed sense of appreciation for the world we live in.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Composed by Philip Le Bas. Chamber,Classical,Folk,Multicultural,World. Score. 9 pages. Philip Le Bas #728476. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1127867).

Incidental music composed for piano in four parts by Philip Le Bas to accompany the Japanese folk tale (ghost story) Yuki-Onna (Snow Woman). This work developed out of a cross-cultural project initiated at Morley College, London, in early 2019, aiming to create a melodrama for piano solo and spoken voice to be performed in northern Japan later in the year by young students of the piano. It is based on the ghost-story above, which is widely known in Japan. The tale was transcribed and published by Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) in 1904 as part of his book “Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things”, a collection that has been highly influential in expressing popular Japanese culture over the past century. Synopsis of the tale of Yuki-Onna: Two wood-cutters, Mosaku and his apprentice Minokichi, encounter a terrible snow-storm and take shelter in an empty hut by a river. The storm gets worse and worse, but they both finally fall asleep. When Minokichi wakes, he sees a woman all in white bending over Mosaku breathing bright white smoke onto his face. She then approaches Minokichi. She is very beautiful, but her eyes make him afraid. After a while she says, “I intended to do the same to you as I did to the old man, but I feel pity for you because you are a pretty young man. If you ever tell anybody what you have seen, however, I will kill you too.” And she vanishes into the snow storm. It is then that Minokichi discovers Mosaku dead on the floor of the hut. Years later Minokichi meets a beautiful girl, who calls herself O-Yuki. He falls in love with her and they live together in his house, along with his mother, who fortunately takes a liking to her new “honourable daughter-in-law.” Over the years O-Yuki gives birth to ten children and the villagers all agree that she is a wonderful person. But she is somehow different from them, as she continues to look young and fresh, despite the passing years. Minokichi often thinks of telling O-Yuki about the events of years ago, and eventually, as he is gazing at her beauty one night, he can resist it no more. He begins to tell her about the snow storm and the terrifying snow-woman. To his horror O-Yuki becomes more and more angry, and she finally says: “It was me, it was me,… and I said I would kill you if you ever told anyone! But for these children asleep here, I would do so this very moment! You had better take very good care of them; for if ever they have reason to complain of you, I will treat you as you deserve!” As she screams at him her voice becomes thin, like the crying of the wind, and she melts into a bright white mist spiraling into the roof-beams. At that moment it starts to snow, but O-Yuki is never seen again.
