You'll love the feel of your fingers flying across the keys while performing this crowd-pleaser that never fails to get attention from listeners! It's a lively piece with a strong melody set upon a backdrop of minor tones that add a touch of sophistication. 

This is an intermediate piece that sounds more advanced than what it is. You'll want to make this one a permanent in your repertoire because it can also be played professionally.

Teachers love this song because it's a great opportunity to practice mastery of phrasing (it's packed with staccato and legato). Luckily, it's built on simple repetitive patterns that make it easy to read and learn.  When the student prepares the piece properly it's one they'll be so proud to play for years to come.

This contemporary harvest tune setting starts simply and lyrically suggesting the simple task of hand-cutting grain. As more workers gather, the thickening texture along with a key change acknowledge the grandeur of nature’s abundance as well as gratitude for the many hands that bring it to our tables. As if dimming light closes the metaphorical harvest day, the music ends simply as it began.

Plays like a journey

Like slowly rolling waves, this piece begins with gently overlapping offbeat patterns underpinning a wispy melody made organic by odd phrase lengths. As the wind picks up, an busier ostinato work in conjunction with a bigger, louder melody. As the storm brew, the energy and density simmer to a pianistic climax before settling down to calmer waters.

Water is part of the Elements Suite and recording created during a visit to the Pacific Northwest, where the natural world exhibits an unusual intensity and the elements are quite prominently display. 

With this music I hope to capture the contrasts between the four elements as well as the dual natures within each of them.  Water, for example, is both a source of life and potentially dangerous.  Air is both breath and wind.  Fire comforts or burns.  Only Earth seemed to me continuous and dependable.

Great for encores!

Unison hands setup up the the spark with bits of  counterpoint and harmony dropping in to push the flame higher until it takes off in a fury of flame. Zooming out to a milder, wider perspective (think distant grass fire) the music next recedes to a comforting (if still hotly busy) fireplace. But before complacency set ins, the real fireworks start with a virtuosic but very playable conclusion ending in a furious burst.

Sunflowers is a 5 page advanced level piece in the key of B major. It is from my album 'The Open Road', a collection of 14 of my solo piano compositions. Kansas is known for its sunflowers, and no matter where I find them in my travels, I love the way they seem to dance when the wind is just so. It’s that swagger that sparked the idea for this little piece.
