The composer and harpsichordist Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy was born in Paris in 1744, and died in 1824 in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandie. She married Jacques Brillon de Jouy 22 years her senior,and had two daughters, Cunégonde and Aldegonde, Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy had a salon in Passy whose guests included the violinist Jean-Pierre Pagin and cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini. Benjamin Franklin was also a frequent vistor and Madame Brillon has an extensive correspondence with him, including the period after his stay in Paris during the American Revolution .Many of her compositions were purchased in 1957 by the American Philosophical Society of Philadelphia, in honor of this friendship.

In 2021, French Pianist Nicolas Horvath recorded a landmark CD for Grand Piano (GP872-73) of Brillon’s keyboard noatas with extensive notes by Aliette de Laleu, Deborah Hayes and Nicolas Horvath and Christine de Pas The keyboard sonatas published here are intended to document this reocrding.

The manuscript of the Sonata in A minor, Madame Brillon’s only solo keyboard work, s in her hand. Crossed-out measures and partially abbreviated notation indicate that t was for her own use in salon performances. This is probably an early work, given the classical haronic vocabulary and typical classical balance of the forms.   The second movement is more virtuosic, with an initial theme in four octaves, scales in doubled thirds and figures which are in alternate hands.

Deep River, perhaps the best known and best-loved of all spirituals, referred to the slaves' yearning for freedom and the rivers that would have to be crossed to get to the Promised Land.  They thought of these mighty waters as rivers flowing into distant horizons.  Campgrounds may refer to secret worship services.  They sang longingly:  Deep River, My home is over Jordan, Deep River, Lord, I want to cross over into campground. About the arranger:  Brenda Dillon is best known for her contributions to the Recreational Music Making movement.  She served on the RMM Committee that designed the RMM Track for MTNA's Pedagogy Saturday.  She also presented group piano and RMM sessions throughout the U.S.  In addition to serving as a teacher trainer, she has written extensive articles on both group piano and RMM teaching.  She has publications with Hal Leonard and Alfred listed on her website (www.brendadillon.com).

This is an arrangement of Heart Of Gold by Neil Young. 

Heart of Gold is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young. From his fourth album Harvest, it is Young's only U.S. No. 1 single. In Canada, it reached No. 1 on the RPM national singles chart for the first time on April 8, 1972, on which date Young held the top spot on both the singles and albums charts.  Billboard ranked it as the No. 17 song for 1972.   In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked it No. 297 on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, No. 303 in an updated 2010 list, and No. 259 in 2021.

Young has stated that this song, as well as Harvest and Out on the Weekend from the same album, were inspired by his then blossoming love for actress Carrie Snodgress.

Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and musician.   Young has received several Grammy and Juno Awards. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted him twice: in 1995 as a solo artist and in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield.[10] In 2000, Rolling Stone named Young No. 34 on their list of the 100 greatest musical artists. This elegant sounding arrangement seems simple on the surface, but is a wonderful way to teach hand independence.   At the end of the first verse of the carol, a counter-melody begins just as the main melody is ending.  Then in the second half, the left hand answers the right hand in simple counterpoint.

When my youngest daughter was turning eight, she was fixated on the American Girl Dolls.  This melody is featured in one of the movies, Samantha: An American Girl Holiday and it quickly became her favorite Christmas carol.  This was her birthday present that year.
