The first half of the piece is simplified to its plainchant origins accompanied by bell-like open fifths or the melody in canonic imitation. Succeeding verses begin to expand and harmonize in a more contemporary treatment. The piece then closes by returning to the hollow open fifth harmony from the beginning of the piece. This arrangement could be adapted for piano or organ.
