The 3rd and final movement to Blaze Scheuerman's A Journey Through Time Piano Sonata, A Struggle For The Future follows a conflict between two separate themes for control. Set in Rondo form, this piece tells an accurate depiction of a common day to day experience. We all in a way start off usually feeling fine like how the melody in the A Theme sounds, but then through the journey of the day meet some other conflict or competition that clashes with our calmness and causes an ensuing struggle. This piece was inspired by Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas, primarily Sonata in C Minor No. 8 “Pathetique�.

This is my second piece that I have wrote for piano and in general. The reason I chose the name Yesterday's Future is basically because I wanted to write a piece where it portrays moving on from something happening in you life. If I were to write it again, I would probably change up the melody a bit halfway through to make it more interesting, but nonetheless, I am pretty happy with it.

As the theme continues throughout the whole the piece, changing very subtly, it resembles something you need to let go of. At the end of the piece with the held right hand and moving left hand, I wanted to make that part sound like it is moving on with the dynamics changing to resemble anger and relief. An original composition, a little tongue in cheek. As the title suggests, there is an element of time travel here...In my case, the composition starts off in a style similar to Bach, then as we go into the future, slowly changes to something Mozart could have written, to end off with the piece sounding as if it were by Beethoven, while all the time maintaining melodic and harmonic integrity. Give this one a try, it's fun and not all that hard..
