Set to Henry Alford's words, Come, Ye Thankful People, Come is one of the most popular hymns for Thanksgiving. This setting treats the tune as a chorale prelude for piano (or organ), with the tune in the soprano.

Hymnary.org tells us that English organist George Job Elvey (1816-1893 ), the composer of the tune, ST. GEORGE'S WINDSOR, was educated at Oxford and at the Royal Academy of Music. At age nineteen Elvey became organist and master of the boys' choir at St. George Chapel, Windsor, where he remained until his retirement in 1882. He was knighted after he provided music for Princess Louise's wedding in 1871.

Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this classic hymn melody by George J. Elvey is from Bjorck's album/CD This I Know: Ageless Hymns of Faith. Many listeners will recognize this melody as Crown Him With Many Crowns, but this hymn also uses this tune. The lyrics exhort the listener, Give to the winds thy fears. Hope and be undismayed. God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears. God shall lift up thy head. It is often challenging to give our fears to the wind. Thus, in Bjorck's arrangement, a repeating bridge and the coda were created to remind the listener of the wind.

The lyrics of Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus have the distinction of being sung to two well-known tunes, both marches. This arrangement as an Intermediate Piano Solo in the keys of B Flat and G major uses both tunes producing a stirring processional, appropriate for use in worship services and programs.
The first tune by Webb and the better known was published in the US prior to the civil war and continues to be a popular and rousing selection The second tune by Geibel was published near the end of the century and appears beside Webb's tune in many hymnals. Geibel's tune, more strident and discordant, provides an exhilarating and inspirational conclusion to this arrangement.
This arrangement is included in McIntire's Gospel Piano Classics series. Other similar hymns in the series are Jesus Saves and Take the Name of Jesus With You available at this web site.
