Obs.: This piece is part of Clarke's semi-opera The Island Princess, which was first performed in London in 1699.
This score is an arrangement for piano solo.
It contains suggestions for performing the trills and appoggiaturas in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
In particular, trills should be played ON the beat, starting on the upper auxiliary note, and appoggiaturas are also played ON the beat, very rapidly.
Note that the dotted quarter note in measure 1 (and similar measures) should be played as if it were doubly dotted, in order to make the short notes of the melody uniformly sixteenth notes.

Jeremiah Clarke’s Trumpet Tune in D was formerly attributed to Henry Purcell. It is often played as processional or recessional music at weddings. This solo piano arrangement would work beautifully for that purpose. as well as for any other occasion needing a regal processional. It is in the key of D major, and is easily accessible for any advanced level pianist.
