Composed by Fishel Pustilnik. Arranged by Fishel Pustilnik. Children,Film/TV,Jazz,Pop. Score. 3 pages. F & N Enterprise #2835783. Published by F & N Enterprise (A0.632306).

Piano piece from famous Volume 5 of Jazz & Pop Piano Paradise. The composition is easy to read, fun to play and sound professional when performed. Arranged by Fishel Pustilnik, very well known as Composer/Publisher. His books Jazz & Pop Piano Paradise (Volumes 1-5) have become a commercial success and a hit with music teachers and students in Canada. (Thousands books already sold in Canada). They are also starting to enter the US, Brazil, Norway, Russia, Holland, Israel, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Latvia and UK markets. This is a wonderful new publication. These pieces offer much appeal for the young pianist and excellent choice for a supplementary book for students from Grade 3 to 8. Lore Ruschiensky, Editor, (from review in The Canadian Music Teacher) Yesterday I spent at least two pleasure filled hours playing through your imaginatively inventive compositions. Congratulations! I trust students will decide to program your well crafted and entertaining works on recitals and examinations. Review from Dr. Jack Behrens, B.Sc. (Julliard), PH.D (Harvard), Director of Academic Studies, The Glenn Gould School I liked this book the best so far. Great work! You have a gift for melody and your arrangements are very playable. Congratulations on the 3rd Volume. Mark Carlstein, Hal Leonard, Keyboard Publications.

Composed by R.A. Moulds. Contemporary. Score. 34 pages. R.A. Moulds #4278495. Published by R.A. Moulds (A0.940882).

This small collection was written with the expressed intention that it should be a collaboration between the composer and the performer. To that end, although the pieces are meant to be played as a set, the ordering of the pieces in performance should be completely left to the performer’s discretion, even though they have been presented in the order in which they were composed. Performers should also feel free to regard all metronome markings as suggestions, and rubato and other expressive interpretations are very much encouraged, even when they are not marked. I have abandoned both descriptive titles and most indications of expression with the hope that artists and listeners alike will bring their own sensibilities, and even indications of tempo have been minimized.

By Valorant & Grabbitz. By Nicholas Chiari. Arranged by Amy Hao. Pop,Rock,Video Game. Score. 3 pages. Amy Hao #764324. Published by Amy Hao (A0.1163971).

Transposed up one half step to E minor from Eb minor for much more enjoyable piano playing.
Octaves were avoided in the right hand to allow for easier execution of the melody, especially for smaller hands.

The arrangement opens up to a serene and barren harmonic landscape but quickly the harmonies become more thick and lush. At measure 10, the bass opens up and the harmonies come cascading in.
This arrangement maintains fidelity with the original song with the entire dubstep segment transcribed at rehearsal marking B.
At Rehearsal marking C, The melody passes between the thumbs of both hands as left hand also maintains a strong bass and the right hand sings out with the electric guitar part! (I couldn't find any other arrangement that included the electric guitar part, which was strange as it's a dominant part of the song.)
At E, enjoy the lush harmonies again, and at F, let your heart sing out for the last time before fading away at the end of the piece.

Composed by Alexis Weissenberg. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q48116. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q48116).

This book presents pianists and ambitious amateur musicians with unfamiliar, surprisingly flamboyant and often witty compositions. These piano works are by one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth Century, one of the most recent all-round musical grand masters: Alexis Weissenberg, who was born in Sofia on 26 July 1929 and died in Lugano on 8 January 2012. This first edition includes all Weissenberg’s surviving completed piano works, apart from those written for two pianos and for piano duet, stage works and the Romance for piano and violin. Fingerings and pedal markings by Alexis Weissenberg are printed in italics (fingerings and allocation of notes between hands, too) or in large type (pedal markings); recommendations added by the editor are shown in roman font (fingerings and allocation of notes between hands) or in smaller type (pedal markings).

Composed by Terry Gilkyson. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Comedy,Film/TV,Jazz. Score. 2 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #869433. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1277927).

About the arrangement
(See also (
PopJazzKeys.com/The-Bare-Necessities)
This is a relatively easy to play solo piano jazz arrangement of THE BAR NECESSITIES. The song is a traditional jazz tune made famous in the Walt Disney movie THE JUNGLE BOOK.
The video and audio recording I posted here features me playing the short version of my arrangement. When played as written (with all the repeats) it is almost 4 minutes long.

What's cool about this arrangement is that you can easily add a bass player and even an entire rhythm section while playing it the same way as you would in a solo performance!

Who this arrangement is best suited for

I think everyone who likes the song except perhaps advanced jazz pianists will have fun learning and playing this arrangement.
I arranged this piece originally with my younger piano students in mind, who have smaller hands than most adults. That’s why there are no large intervals or big jumps in the left hand. Something generally found in ragtime and early jazz piano styles. This means that my arrangement is perfectly suited for pianists with smaller hands. Of course pianists with large hands (like myself) can play it too (ha-ha!).
I think it is also a great piece for pianists who want to familiarize themselves with playing jazz piano. And since I wrote out every note and articulation, they can play along with the recording and hopefully pick up the traditional jazz feel along the way.
Although the arrangement is not very difficult, it poses several challenges for the inexperienced pianist, as explained later.

How I arranged it

As I already explained above, there are no large intervals or big jumps in the left hand to be found. Instead, I focused more on polyphonic arranging techniques, in both hands. I also used guide tones and inversions.
The left hand imitates the accompaniment style of a traditional jazz guitar or banjo player with added half time bass figures that are typically played by a tuba or upright bass an octave lower.

Tips for how to learn this arrangement

When I teach this song to my students I strongly recommend to them to listen to the original version and my recording a lot, rather than explaining to them how swinging eighth notes and jazz articulation work. By the way, there are a few bars where you hear me playing straight eighths on the recording (as indicated in the sheet music).
I decided to add articulations so that pianists who have not a lot of experience with playing jazz will find it easier to play it with the appropriate “touchâ€. It's a good idea to check those out.
Should you not be familiar with playing polyphonic passages with one hand, you might want to practice very slowly at first and attempt to balance the different voices appropriately.
Listening to the recording will also help with discovering dynamic possibilities. I didn’t want to clutter up the sheet music with dynamic markings, so listening to the recording is really the only way to figure out what dynamics I had in mind.

SKU: A0.862673

Composed by Beethoven, L. van. Arranged by Michael Bomier. Classical,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 46 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #3684169. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862673).

GateWay Editions was established to bring Europe's great piano music to players with average-size hands and technique. This piece, which, in the company of Islamey, Gaspard, the Etudes-Tableaux of Rachmaninoff and various Liszt pieces, is at the pinnacle of both interpretive and technical challenges, is now brought into MUCH clearer focus with our new edition. Since the piece is practically a sacred text, no notes have been changed. Period. What HAS been changed is the presentation, especially in the 2nd movement, which is also our audio sample here.
The small note-values, the radical time signatures, the measures that often take up an ENTIRE line of commercially-printed music, and the decided lack of cautionary accidentals: all these elements have been pre-decoded, essentially.
No more using a hand-lens to see if that mark is a slur or a tie, or both! No more straining to see what note is held over, while the new one strikes. Our setting here, which you can see in the sample, often takes each BEAT, and puts a barline there, along with a common time signature, 3/4, 6/8, 4/4, etc.
No smaller fractions, and no vast forest of dots and flags. All the 2nd movement rhythms have been arithmetically expanded, while maintaining their relationships. All the ornamentation, with its hidden melody, has been written out.
So, while this piece has not been made any easier to play, it HAS been made vastly easier to read. One might claim that it is now readable at all, whilst the original cannot be deciphered at sight without great mental and visual effort.
Please, print this double-sided for best results, as the repeats are either on a single page, or are on facing pages in our formatting. Single-sided gives you that same control, if you wish. Enjoy the masterwork of the Master of Masters! MBB

Composed by Carson Cooman. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score. 37 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3018601. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533554).

I. (Flowing)
II. (Fast, nimble)
III. (Funereal) (in memoriam Donald Martino)
IV. (Dancing)
V. (Distant, echoing) (for Richard and Dee Wilson)
VI. (Moderate, singing, with humor) (for Michael Finnissy)
VII. (Slow, very lyrical)
VIII. (March)
IX. (Envoi: Very slow, from afar)
Nine Preludes (2007) for piano was written for and is dedicated to pianist Marilyn Nonken; it was commissioned by
Richard Mason.
Although the work is composed as a set of discrete movements, the preludes are very much interconnected, as motivic
and developmental ideas run throughout the entire set. The basic musical material (founded upon collections of minor
and major thirds) is shared among all nine movements. An elegiac quality runs throughout the work.
The first prelude (Flowing) is inspired by the piano music of Johannes Brahms, whose contributions to the instrument’s
literature have been a significant and ongoing influence on my work.
The second prelude is fast and bright. Consistent staccato textures are maintained as the two hands intertwine.
The third prelude (Funereal) is dedicated to the memory of American composer Donald Martino (1931–2005). The music
refers very obliquely to Martino’s setting of Robert Herrick’s poems of death and eternity in The White Island (1985).
The fourth prelude (Dancing) is light and buoyant. After a melodic middle section, the opening music reverses itself to the
end.
The fifth prelude (Distant, echoing) is dedicated to Richard and Dee Wilson. Through large blocks of sustained sound (both
quiet and loud), the movement explores certain harmonic colors of the piano.
The sixth prelude (Moderate, singing, with humor) is dedicated to English composer Michael Finnissy. The opening is
marked “like an ‘off-kilter’ folk song,†and this original melody is subjected to a variety of transformations and textures.
The rhythmic patterns are constantly in flux.
The seventh prelude (Slow, very lyrical) is melodic and passionate, with a nocturnal character. The middle builds to an
intense climax before dying away.
The eighth prelude (March) is spiky and crisp. In the trio, the march theme is turned first into a tonal ballad before
gradually transforming back into the language of the march. A faster reprise of the opening music follows.
The ninth prelude (Envoi: Very slow, from afar) is an elegaic “farewell.†Romantic gestures and harmonies try to assert
themselves before the music dies away.

Performance Note: Although it is preferred that the entire set of nine preludes be played in concert, individual preludes (or smaller
assembled groupings) may be performed when necessary for programming needs. If the entire set is played, however, the order of the
preludes should not be changed. The movements should be listed in the program in the format shown at the top of this page.

By Michael Buble. By Haven Gillespie and John Frederick Coots. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Blues,Christmas,Jazz. Score. 5 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #912057. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1323881).

Solo Piano Arrangement By Thomas Gunther
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town is another one of my favorite Christmas songs. For some reason I love playing it in a bluesy style, with some jazz voicings. The bridge is more in stride piano style.
About The Arrangement
The arrangement includes different stylistic elements found in more traditional popular piano music. It definitely has a bluesy vibe, but also shows elements of jazz and stride piano.
When it comes to the form I extended it by adding an intro that comes back in-between sections in form of an interlude. There is also an outro.
About The Sheet Music
The sheet music is basically a transcription of my recording. It contains jazz chord symbols and plentiful of articulations as well as some dynamic markings.
My Arranging Workflow
I have different approaches for creating solo piano arrangements of songs. The one I took here is as follows. First I come up with different ideas, try them out, and after a while settle on those I like best. Once I practiced and internalized those ideas I press record and hope for the best. Before the final version is done, I record myself many times over. This gives me the opportunity to improve upon each version until I have one that I feel comfortable with.
Recommendations For Learning The Song
I recommend that you first listen to my performance while reading along in the sheet music. This way you get a better understanding about the phrasing and the rhythmic feel.
You may want to spend a little time just vamping a few bars to get into the groove. When that feels good move on to different sections.
The bridge is different in feel because it is based on stride piano rather than blues. Stride piano features big jumps in the left hand and big intervals between the outer notes (up to a 10th). Should you have difficulty in playing those big intervals (smaller hands will make this hard) you may roll the notes and use the sustain pedal.
Is This Arrangement For You?
This solo piano arrangement is for every pianist who would like to try playing Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town in a more bluesy-jazzy style. Dependent on what your specialty is musically speaking, you made benefit from it in different ways. Here are some examples.
Classical Pianists
If you are a classical pianist who rarely listens to jazz and blues music, this arrangement might be a great way to dip your feed into more contemporary genres and styles like blues and jazz. This said, it might be quite challenging. Not from a technical point of view, but from a musical point of view. For example, swung eighth notes and accents and phrasing in blues and jazz are somewhat contrary to classical music. It's gonna be a great learning experience for sure!
Jazz Pianists
Should you be a jazz musician or blues musician, you may not necessarily want to play the arrangement as written note for note. Instead, you might just fall in love with some of my ideas and create your own arrangement based on those.
This goes especially for the solo section. You can play my solo or use it as inspiration for your own solo. Of course experiences blues and jazz musicians will prefer to make up their own solo.
I truly hope you have fun playing this arrangement! Yes.

Album & Songbook review by:
Kathy Parsons (MainlyPiano.com):
Isadar’s fourth solo piano album is a blend of smooth jazz and new age, showing both his impressive technique and sensitivity to melody. Several of the eight selections are free-form and improvisational, revealing some of Liz Story’s influence on his music. Some of Isadar’s earlier recordings have very dark, moody sections, but this one stays fairly upbeat and optimistic without being ear candy. The music is complex enough to sink your teeth into, and yet is accessible enough to enjoy as a backdrop to a quiet dinner or an evening with a good book.

Joyful Running begins the journey with an exuberant and uplifting piece that reminds me a little of some of Spencer Brewer’s bouncier compositions. Fountain of Life is a beautiful piece with a water-like flow that never stops in its 10 1/2 minutes. I listened to this CD several times without realizing that this song was that long. It flows and meanders so effortlessly that it seemed no longer than the other seven selections, most of which are between four and five minutes in length. Unstructured and free, this is one of my favorite tracks. I also really like the title track, which is even more abstract and unstructured. The tone is of searching and moving forward. End of the Line is my favorite on this album. Very introspective and contemplative, this seems to be a very personal piece. It is the most somber track, but one still senses hope despite the ending of something dear and important. Or maybe it’s simply the end of the journey and the dread of returning to real life - I feel this way on the last day of my vacations! It is a wonderful and moving closing to an excellent album.

The companion songbook is expertly transcribed and engraved by David Shenton of New York Music Publishing. The layout of the music is clear and uncluttered, and the notation includes pedal markings and dynamics that allow the pianist to express the music as closely as possible to how Isadar played it on the recording. A few of the pieces are quite long and require a more advanced pianist who is able to express the nuances that keep the recording so interesting, but several of the pieces are well within the capabilities of upper intermediate players. Some of the rhythms are a little bit tricky, but the majority of the left hand parts are running eighth notes, which make it easier. None of the key signatures are difficult, and none of the chords have a reach of more than an octave, making this music very playable for smaller hands. My favorite pieces to play in this book are Joyful Running, Voice of God (Thanksgiving), Smoke Signals, and End of the Line.

This is my version of Jerome Kern's classic 'The Way You Look Tonight'. One of the most popular jazz standards ever written, Dorothy Fields providing the lyrics. First sung in the film 'Swing Time' by Fred Astaire to Ginger Rogers but covered by such legends as Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet and more recently by Michael Buble and Phil Collins.
My version is a Stride Piano version but owes the tempo and the right hand just a little bit to Erroll Garner and I take it through the 2 keys of Eb major and F major.
I haven't included fingering, dynamics or pedal markings as I prefer to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist as no two piano teachers would ever agree on such things. Please note this is a piano solo and doesn't include notation for the other instruments that feature on my YouTube video. It was written, however, like all my compositions and arrangements, as a piano solo and sounds perfect as such. The left hand, being stride has a very full sound. Any tenths in the left hand can easily be converted to single notes or octaves for those with smaller hands.
I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed arranging it.
