Words and music by Judy Lane - Deportment is important! This fun classroom song endorses a message to stand up tall and not slouch. To emphasize the point, it could be used as an action song with children marching in a line, circle or on the spot to the music with heads held high.
Judy Lane was a graduate student at the Royal Academy Of Music in London and studied under Michael Head. She has twice been awarded the Lennox Berkeley Cup in the open composition class at the Oxford Music Festival. Adjudicators/critics have said:- Judy exhibits a flair for setting words to singable melodies and for inventing appropriate moods to suit the context and lyrics Judy's music is like a BREATH OF FRESH AIR 4 score pages - Approx length - 2 minutes. but repeated to suit the event.

Composed by Mike J.D. Roberts. Children,Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Mike Roberts #4368702. Published by Mike Roberts (A0.913547).

An arrangement of 'Sleepy Head' for solo piano - a ballad originally written for jazz quartet.

The piece will work well for new players. The melody and chords are both very simple and it is in C major so there are minimal sharps and flats. It is a simplistic arrangement, but do not feel afraid to experiment with different harmonies in the right hand if you like!

It’ll also work for any pianist who just fancies something nice to play (perhaps those with unruly children who need some relaxing music!).

By Michael Swedberg. By Terrence Niska. 21st Century,Classical. Score. 8 pages. Niska Music Publishing #842684. Published by Niska Music Publishing (A0.1248121).

This charming little prelude was not actually the first one I wrote for this collection, but rather a replacement for the original which felt out of place with the rest of the pieces. At first glance, it appears to be a study in thirds for the right hand while the left left hand keeps a steady underlying motion, but it is much more than that. There is a feeling of a journey, as though a leaf is floating down a stream. It starts out simple enough, with an air of peace and the image of sunlight on the water. There are moments when the trees block out the sun and the leaf goes in and out of the shimmering reflections, caught in the pull of the current, but nevertheless carried along without any concern as to where it is heading.
The music takes on a minor feel as the leaf enters the rapids and is tossed about from whirlpool to whirlpool, nearly being submerged but always finding its way to the surface before finally breaking free and continuing it’s journey with the same sense of tranquility with which it began.
